I'm new around here, but I have been collecting off and on since early 1997, when there was exactly 1 Transformers website and finding a TF Movie poster was a joke at best. I don't think I've bought anything Transformers related in over a year, but I thought it was nice to see a forum dedicated to Transformers collectors.

I'll try to get more recent pictures of what I have. I also need to get some glass shelves cut for my display case (which was free from a friends leftovers from his automotive speed shop), so I can fit more in. The front section of glass is now removed, so it's a lot easier to load or acess toys in it, but I still need more room. I sold off all of my doubles and G2 to try and make room.

Everything that I have is genuine generation 1, 1st run/ early version, C8-C9 or better and complete, minus the Jetfire, which will soon find a new home, as I have a Macross symbol version coming.

I also collect old skateboards, which are a lot more expensive and difficult to find in new old stock/ mint unridden condition.... AAAAH! The addictions of collecting are costly!  optimuslaugh2.gif

A few others -

and a few of the drawings that I did a while back out of boredom/ inspiration from the toys themselves...

I'll try to get some better pictures at the new place with my better camera soon.

Have fun!

Dave

Damn you guys with your glass cases!

Skateboards huh. I got an old 82 or 83 McGill deck in my basement. It's been painted green tho... I can see some fishes on it, it was pink or red or something. When i was a kid I always wanted to get that Steve Cabalero (sp?) deck with the dragon on it. I never skated on these new smaller kinds, but 11 years on the older types.

Nice transformers collections and very nice drawing thumbsup1.gif

welcome to the boards and sweet collection
DaveBonds
@ everyone- Thanks for the compliments on the artwork and on the toys! Most other forums that I've visited give people the rural hazing. optimuslaugh2.gif

I come acrossed some amazing toys, usually for free or cheap, so I can benefit people here quite a bit. I also restore cars for a living and I have restored toys and skateboards alike. Some of my toys were built from dead carcasses and feel/ look minty clean now.

I actually restored the Predaking that I own. The joints and plastic were in excellent shape, but all of the die cast parts on all five of the toys were beat and I color matched, stripped and reapplied the gloss paint with my airbrush. It looks like it was never touched.

@ Tripredacus - Yeah, that Mike Mc Gill Skull and Snake is a cool deck! The Steve Caballero decks are nice, too. I'm a Santa Cruz fan myself... I have like 7-8 more decks coming, but here is my most recent pic of the skateboard collection, for anyone interested-

The glass case is pretty old. I had all of my toys on a shelf, but before I moved, the washer and dryer were in the same room and I would have to dust everything, which as many of you probably already know, sucks! optimuslaugh2.gif

I actually got the glass case for free. It was by the dumpster in the back of my friends old shop. You can pick them up from store closings. Check your newspaper for places going out of business and every now and then you can buy the fixtures for cheap. It was a pain in the neck loading it/ setting them all up, because the case is actually a rear loading display for a store front, so I had to put the short ones in the front first, then move back. Then, I would have to slowly move the case back against the wall without knocking it over! That was always fun...  thumbsdown.gif Hahaha! The front glass actually broke when I moved it, but I'm actually glad that it did, because it's easier and more realistic to use. I may replace the front glass with sliding front loading glass panels, but I'm okay with it now.

I'm too lazy to go pick up a relay for the light, so it takes a while for the lights to come on, when I turn it off, but $2 and a trip to the hardware store should take care of that.  optimuslaugh2.gif

I WOULD have had a Browning, MIB (Robogun/ red and chrome version) for $35.00, but I was so caught up on this skateboard auction, that I had forgotten all about it.

I'll see if I can find the link to the auction and post it in the eBay findings. It was unbelievable and I had every intention to snag it, but i slept on it.  huffermad.gif

Oh well, maybe next time.  optimuslaugh2.gif

Ah Santa Cruz, I'm Powell Pereltra all the way myself.  thumbsup1.gif

I'm thinking of maybe trying to get that green paint off somehow, paint thinner maybe? But I don't want it to take off the art underneath... well actually there is not much left under there as it is.... grinding does that heh.

I'd like to see, if it's some how possible, things like the gift set boxes either framed or just stuck on a wall with some kind of shelf.  That would look very good if its possible.

That starscream mask is very cool, and rather hard to come by.  Make that a center show piece.

Very nice collection.

I am impressed w/ what you have and even more impressed w/ your drawings. Good mixture of boxed and loose figs.

Make sure to post new pics whenever you get some more stuff and whenever you move into the new place.

Welcome to the boards!!!

Nice collection!

You say you restore cars, hmm? Any advice for a guy with a leaking radiator and an alternator that's going bad? =P (Joking, PM me. ;-) )
DaveBonds
Don't know what you're up to with the car, but I sent you a PM anyway!

Thanks for all of the compliments again. I'd probably have a lot more to show for in my 9+ years of collecting semi actively, but I'm sure everyone can relate to having other things that they spend money on, be it bills or other toys. It's usually a combination of both. Car restoration isn't cheap, even if you do it yourself and I think on average, each one of those skateboards ran me about $500 each. The lowest being $150 and others closer to $1,500. The record was just broken for the most money spent on a skateboard. It was $6,000 and is now at $10,000 (from the same guy who spent the $6G on the other Tony Hawk deck)... plus whatever it cost the dude to take a trip to NYC to pick it up from North Cali. Some deals you just do in person.

And I thought I had the crazy eye!

The toy madness never stops!  optimuslaugh2.gif

Dude, that board collection is more impressive than *any* TF collection I've seen on here. They're minty fresh and some of the pillars of the old pipe/pool designs.
One great one I always loved was one of the first Alba boards. I was always a Powell guy growing up, but when my neighbor got that Alba, with the angled tail I stole it from him every chance I got.

I had no idea people were collecting those things, so thanks for the flashback.

(holy crap! just checked on ebay for some old decks and it absolutely recockulous what they're going for! Dayum!)
DaveBonds
The Steve Aalba Bevel was a great deck!

Skateboards do get super pricey in mint condition. The decks that sold back in the day were skated. The ones out there that are being collected are the lucky factory leftovers or decks that were in the back of skate shops or used as tattoo or skate shop decorations.

The difference between skateboards and transformers from a statistic point of view is that skateboards were made to be destroyed. Although Transformers were destroyed and played with until broken, it wasn't advertised that you were supposed to destroy them. You played with them and put them away and you were supposed to take care of them.  optimuslaugh2.gif

It's a lot harder to find skateboards. In some instances (the Jagermeister deck on the right end) that was my first deck, there are exactly 10 of them in the world left, unskated, one of which belongs to the Santa Cruz skateboard factory warehouse collection.  optimuslaugh2.gif It's similar to collecting original low brow art.

I started collecting because I hate popsicle stick shaped boards and I grew up on old school decks and wanted to start skating again. I bought a skateboard from a list that a skate shop had in the back room, set it up, used it as a long board and never tapped the tail, in fear that it might be worth something. I was right, so I dismounted the hardware and griptape and hung it. Then I wanted my first deck back (the Jagermeister with the deer and cross) and I found one 4 years later in 2002. I had been collecting Transformers at the time and I thought it was insane for me to spend $340 on a skateboard at the time. I just recently found one in the same natural wood finish last month that I had as a kid. It was in the back of an old skate shop in Sicily, unskated and I sold the dark blue one for $1,600.

Skateboard decks accumulate value faster than any collectable ever has. 1000%+ price increases in 15-20 years since they cost $45-$50 when they were new. They are definately the epitomy of a collectable... Saught after, super rare, made to destroy and have semi-celebrity names like Tony Hawk, Jason Lee (from My Name Is Earl), Steve and Mickey Alba (Related to Jessica) and many others  attached to them.

I'm starting to try and finish up my Transformers collection and I stumbled on this site looking for a Browning toy and came acrossed the thread with the variants listed.

Glad to be a member here! I have stories about Transformers related junk that are crazy. I'll get around to them eventually.  optimuslaugh2.gif

Thanks again!

Wow very cool collection!
Tripredacus
Yep. I went through a bunch of skateboards. Of course then I got the McGill from my friend in 1993 for about $10. It weighs like 5 pounds and there is no way you could break it if you tried (it seems) but it was also so heavy that no one I knew could do any tricks on it except grinds... Oh and it has steel risers instead of plastic ones... that might be it.
DaveBonds
Thanks Rodr Evil! I'm loving the boxed Trypticon! Oddly enough, that was one of the first and few Transformers that I had as a kid, aside from the Optimus prime and Hound that I received as a birthday and christmas gift prior and I still don't have one. I've had a few loose incomplete ones that I've let go, but I'm holding out for the day that I actually get the nerve to spend money on a complete one or a boxed one. I kept the box when I was little until my brother shredded it years later.

I remember my mom letting me keep the box, because of the awesome artwork on the inside of the flap. I loved it up on my book shelf. It also came with a glow in the dark poster that my younger brother terrorized.  optimuslaugh2.gif

@ Tripredacus -STEEL risers! HAAA!  optimuslaugh2.gif Yeah that would add a few pounds to the ride!  optimuslaugh2.gif

Old school decks vary in weight, but most weigh in right around 3lbs 5ounces or just under. Complete with everything, most weigh right under 5lbs... I'll bet that McGill weighs in at 6-7lbs!

Man, every time I go to spend money on a cool Transformers toy, recently, I always end up spending it on a skateboard.

It was either these decks or a TF Browning. (I'll repost the pics soon) I think I'm happy with my decision though. I can always get a JP TF Browning down the road at some point.

Hey man, I finally found a pic of the deck I have. It's the 1991 McGill. You can see the third pic on this page. Unfortanately I can't find a bigger pic of it.

That is one awesome G1 collection. Great job.

It seems to me I'll never rank this high with collectors. My G1 is pretty much non existent. thumbsdown.gif

Ah well, moving on.

Awesome collection man!

I just got a Powell Peralta sticker in the mail and I put in on my car...
