If you thought the Decepticons were always the most out numbered army in most of the series and toy lines, think again.Â
The original Diaclone line had tons and tons of machines on the side of good...and a few enemy forces in the Waruder Army. Though their numbers were many, there was not a lot given to us in the form of new molds.
About all that is know of these creatures is from what we can see in the toy line and what was translated from the Diaclone series.Â
The drivers for the Waruder fortunately were 3 different aliens. Solid metal bodies with colored plastic arms and legs, with the magnet block boots. These had 3 different heads, however are not totally unique. From what I gather, the arms and legs are the same for all, just the metal body are different.Â
As with the evolution of the Diaclone toys, these drivers needed robo suits, and we get something that looks like the original alien from War of the Worlds. 3 eye canopy, weird set up, with claws, and guns and launchers that can attach to its hands of back. Two arms and 2 legs, resembles a deep sea diving suit. The only toy version I am aware of this Alien Robosuit came with the “Walkerâ€? bots. Wind up walking machines, which the driver could fit in the driver seat as well as the suit clamp to the back.Â
There were model kits of the alien suit as well. Larger ones (have GREAT artwork, and full Alien drivers) and mini suits, came with ½ alien drivers (no legs beyond the hips). All plastic.Â
From here we only get a few more examples of the Waruder army. A 3 machine combiner, that transforms into crude insect like machines, which can merge to form a super robot. (Seen in Diatron 5). One is a mosquito, one a weird scorpion and the other a dragon fly (or something),Â
Then we have the robots which are now known as the Insecticons. And yea, the chests are the driver seats of the alien pilots. Different colors of course, but same old Kickback and friends.Â
The final Alien force was a Microman cross over, the DinoRobo. Apparently to combat the Dinobots. This was a magnetic parts merge toy that comes with all sorts of accessories that either click into place with magnets or peg holes. It is not reported to have a driver seat or have anything really to do with the Diaclone line (was made for the larger Microman line, or Micronaut Barron Karza and Force Commander series )Â
That’s about it as far as I know. Sure they were supposed to come down and attack in droves, but there were not many to choose from at all.Â
I highly recommend if you are starting out to take interest in the Model kits and the Combiner. Find the drivers when and if you can. My collection I only have 1 alien driver of each, and then the model kit versions.Â
Happy Hunting Diaclone Killer!
- There are also model kits of the Waruder merge team, both large sized and mini sized out there.
