In the quest for completing my collection, I came across a couple either real or very well done knock off Pre TF Whirls.

One of the interesting things about this thing is that he came with a driver.  Solid plastic, mono colored driver.  For some time I argued with someone on the net saying that it was a guy...figured it to be a really feminine looking guy, till I came across some card scans from the rare cartoon series.

Whirl, was driven by a woman.

Probably the first female toy associated with any Transformer actually.  Perhaps Whirl is her twin brother or sister?

Here are some scans of the toy and the artwork I found years ago.

The reversed colored whirl is rather cool in its self.

Too bad Whirl wasnt actually in the TF-Show...

I was going to save this picture for the Diaclone Model kit article I was considering...I'll write about that later.  For now the WHIRL CONSPIRACY!!!

Yes, you arn't seeing things, I said CONSPIRACY...the company has tried to HIDE the fact that Whirl was probably a girl.  And have done so by directly attacking this notion with the model kit photo I am about to show.

Long after Diaclone had become TransFan History, remakes of many old toys and kits started to hit the stores...yet another topic for more detailed discussion in another post.  In short you might recall the Teen Age Mutant Ninja Turtles remake of Cosmo Roller in GREEN???  At any rate, along those lines, pre-tf model kits were re-used and renamed into cheap lines.  Among one that had something to do with the internet or computers (?) came this...WHIRL, the MODEL KIT....but with one big change.

She was renamed E-MALE, a stupid twist on EMAIL, with the direct attack on her gender.  Conspiracy???  Or just stupid attempt to come up with a name?

So she might have been Road Busters not so pretty Girlfriend, in dire need of a make over and an upgrade...several up grades...

I tell you this, it's a Conspiracy!  One against any notion of Female toys.  Because we all know, back in the day, female toys "would not sell" so kids (IE Boys) would not want it.

That would be a nice story for a comic about whirl.  Maybe he takes the form of a Tv helocopter, cons attack and he's force to transform with the girl in the pilot sit still.

I got a blue one with a pilot off of ebay a while ago.  The joints are loose, and its funny seeing whirl with a driver.

EDIT:
Anyone notice the helicopter blades have different molding?

Maz
The extra moulding could well be to protect the blades from breakage for the TF release, as it looks like it was done for strengthening purposes.

All the best

Gives a new meaning to "give her a whirl". redface2tf.gif

Whirl, before, was know as Ovelon Gazette (or Ovelon Gazette).
It comes from Dorvack serie, as roadbuster (mugen calibur, or mucen calibur) and a driver was inside cockpit of these, but some remold was made.

I have both of then (2 "whirl" and 2 "roadbuster"), nice double couple.

FFS It's not a knock off, it THE ORIGINAL. This toy was made in Japan and is of the highest quality. It had a storyline and was sold long before Whirl was born.

In fact if you study Diaclones and other takatoku transformers you will notice that the quality is noticably superior to whirl. Diaclones tend to be tighter, finer molding, better QC and proper shooting missles.

Their packaging design and quality has not be surpassed even up to the present day stuff.

The Character Whirl in the comics was male. It's up to whom ever to decide if the original Pre TF version in reverse blue colors was female or not, like Road Rage. No female characterists in the toy, orig toy like the rest was a simple machine or mech. It's up to the owner or future user of the character based on the toy...

pilot I'm pretty sure was a girl.

Oh and my pre-tf version I'm pretty sure is a KO. My RB or callibur is definitely not.
