Ixis Naugus was from the Zone of Silence. He was originally King Acorn's advisor, until Warlord Kodos trapped him in the Zone. Then Robotnik trapped Kodos in the Zone. He got out after the real Robotnik died and became the main villain after Mammoth Mogul was imprisoned in the Master Emerald. Once Ixis was defeated, Robo-Robotnik made his move to conquer Mobius, and has since been the main villain. But he dropped the "Robo" since his appearance was changed to match Sonic Adventure when it first came out.
Only 2 graphic novels have been printed. Sonic Firsts reprints the first appearances of Sonic and the Freedom Fighters, Super Sonic, Bunnie Rabbot, and Knuckles.
Another trade reprints the first 4 issue mini series. I am fortunate in that I have every single issue, one-shot, 48 page special, and mini-series. It's my pride and joy.

well the Darkest Storm has ended, and it was friggin sweet. You may be lost if you're a new fan, but it's still a great story. And it looks like Anonymous may be the original Ivo Robotnik, since he has the same silhouette. Now Dr. Finitevus has begun recruiting Sonic's enemies (Scourge, Rouge, and the Destructix), but Rouge left when things just got too evil for her. Can't wait til the next 2 issues, cuz they return to the Mobius: 25 Years Later storyline they did over a year ago.

the Mobius: 25 Years Later story draws to a close as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and his daughter battle the evil King Shadow to save the future. Love the story, love the artwork, can't wait for the next issue.
Sonic The Hedgehog #168 - November 2006
"Order From Chaos: The Gathering Part 1 of 2": A new and deadly evil lurks in the darkness, prepared to strike Sonic and destroy the entire planet. This latest menace proves to be one of Sonic's deadliest villains ever, and this time we might just mean it when we say the combined forces of Sonic and the Freedom Fighters may be no match for this fiend! Especially since Sonic may have to put a friend or two's life in danger just to stop him!
Sonic The Hedgehog #169 - November 2006
"Order and Chaos: the Gathering Part 2 of 2": A Sonic battle that has been building for ages comes to its penultimate chapter. With Sonic's father and closest allies in the Freedom Fighters out of commission, it's left to Super Sonic, Super Shadow, and Turbo Tails to help save the day. But how do you defeat an enemy so evil that they don't even have an identity! That mysterious enemy, simply known as "Anonymous" hopes the answer is "you don't!"

holy Blot, anyone read issue #175. Damn, Eggman kicked Sonic's ass and captured everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, in Knothole City. The city and castle were all destroyed, and the only ones left to save the day are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. I hope Shadow pops up too, he's my fav.
Oh, and there are manga sized trades out right now collecting the series from issue #1. So far they've done 4 trades.

I'm interested in how serious the book has become, so I'm picking up all the archives. It'll prolly be a while before I actually get to read new stories, but I haven't read any of these in about 10 years, so they're still fun. I'm interested to see how the specials and minis will be archived.

Yeah, Ixis was going to be in the animated series before it was canceled. You see his eyes at the end of the last episode, IIRC.
Also, is it officially Eggman now in the comics? Did the follow suit and drop the Robotnik? If so, that saddens me a great deal.
Big Grim
Jul 9 2007, 10:58 AM
Eggman is just used synonimously(sp) with Robotnik. He's still Robotnik, but Eggman is his nickname now. And Ixis Naugus did make an appearance in the cartoon alongside King Acorn in the Void/Zone of Silence. Both started turning into crystal when the left that dimension, so they had to go back. Then Snively went and teamed up with him. Too bad the 3rd season never happened

Oh man, I just finished watching my SatAM DVD's and I've got to say it REALLY got me interested in reading the comics again. The last few episodes (which I hadn't seen sine I was probably 11 or 12) blew me away. I haven't read any of the comics since the Sonic Spinball special they did, which was like 1992, so I went to Wikipedia to get caught up and was amazed at everything I missed! Bunnie and Antoine got married? Mobius really future earth?? WTF! Needless to say I'm really motivated to get back into the comics now, but I don't know if I'd ever get all the way caught up and there's no way for me to get every back issue. How are these archive TPB's they're coming out with now? I saw a bunch of them on Amazon. Are they full color and everything?

yep, they plan on collecting every issue. You should pick them up. And I'm the sonic expert here, got every single damn issue. Including Knuckles own comic, every mini-series, and 48-page special. The story has been really kickass since the new creative team took over in issue #160

That's awesome. Like I said, I haven't read a single issue since the Spinball era and haven't played a game since Adventure on the Dreamcast back in '99-2000 so I'm almost completely ignorant, but I remembered the SatAM cartoons being great and having watched them again I'm really energized to get caught up on the comics and even play the games again. I'm thinking of getting the Sonic Gems collection for GC, since I never got to play Sonic CD (I had better sense than to buy a Sega CD or 32X at the time).
Big Grim
Aug 9 2007, 07:16 AM
yeah, I got Sonic Gems and the Sonic Mega Collection. Plus Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog. I don't have a nexgen system yet, so I haven't played the newest game.
But yeah, definitely pick up the comic, you won't regret it. It combines the SatAM and video game continuity. For me, it's the best interpretation of Sonic there is. And I love how video game characters like Knuckles, Shadow, and Rouge make regular appearances.

I've already got Mega Collection and Adventure DX for Gamecube. I got it when it first came out, which was about a year before "+" landed on the PS2. I've heard bad things about the emulation on the + version anyway (and I wasn't impressed with the emulation on the Genesis collection for PS2), plus I use a Hori SNES pad for 2D gaming on my 'Cube, so I don't feel like I'm missing much.

The first metal sonic was in issue 9, called psuedo sonic.
Then MechaSonic Debuted in issue 25.
Then Sonic was robotisized in issues 39/40 as the TRUE mecha sonic.
Passed that, I'm not sure.

Metal Sonic was also in Knuckles' Chaotix #1. Silver Sonic appeared in #85, Metal Sonic reappeared in #86-87. After that he was absent for a very long time until recently, Metal Sonic was shown in issues #146-149, and then in #157-159 which featured an army of Metal Sonic Troopers whose appearance was based on the Sonic Heroes design. Sorry, no Metal Madness/Overlord though.

that story was kinda a nod to the Sonic the Hedgehog anime movie that came out a few years back. It featured Metal Sonic, and he did end up helping at the very last minute. And they've had kissing since at least issue #50. Bunnie and Antoine even got married in issue #174

I remember being disappointed with Enerjak's original reveal, because I was looking forward to some grand story with Archemedes. Then they reveal archemedis right away and tossed in some new villian. Then I read issues 2 and 3 and realized that Enerjak is awesome.Never saw him return, I stopped reading after Knuckles 6.also, I looked up Sonic Archives 6, and it's still just collecting the main series, not the Sonic Super Special #1. I hope they figure out some way to include it, because I know the minis and the specials tie into the main series more and more. Between issues 40 and 41, for instance.
Big Grim
Sep 18 2007, 08:40 AM
I'm sure they'll start collecting those, maybe they'll even do volumes of just the specials. The first Sonic special came out around #18 or 19, and the next one wasn't til around issue #25. But they are getting close.
I knew Archimedes was gonna be an ally and that Enerjak/Dimitri was gonna be the villain based on the story revolving around Edmund and Dimitri which led into the mini. They kinda hinted at what was coming, especially with the fire ants and all. And you really missed out, the Knuckles comic was pretty awesome. The final arc was pretty ho-hum, but everything else was great, especially with more revelations about the Brotherhood and the Dark Legion.

I'll believe it when I see it, and I doubt there's any truth to it considering that Ian Flynn is a big fan of the Archie continuity (and it shows in his writing). Besides, the comic already is an amalgam of the SatAM continuity and game continuity and has incorporated many game elements into it.

and where did you find it?
Considering there's already a Sonic X comic, I doubt it. It's gone strong for 180 issues, not a lot of comics that don't involve Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, or the X-Men can make that claim. Why fix what just isn't broke.
Now if they're gonna do something temporary like Age of Apocalypse where some like Enerjak or Dr. Finitevus alter the timeline temporarily, maybe I can see that happening. But getting rid of it for good, not likely. There's as much a chance of that happening as there is of having Marvel replace 616 with Ultimate Marvel.

QUOTE
As the Archie series progressed, they introduced more and more Archie-Only characters with ever-expanding and complex backgrounds. Loose ends, plot holes and contrived storylines abound. This was partially due to editors and writers leaving the book, and general "Back End" confusion.
At one point, they tried to kill off Sally in the infamous "Endgame" arc, but fan outrage would not allow it. They had made her too charismatic and like-able a character to simply be dismissed...which also lead to contraversy.
The complex and crossing story-arcs packed with Archie-Only characters resulted in a confusing book, that especially boggles newcomers. A trend with the comics is to reveal a character as "Not Someone you thought they were for the last year" with dopplegangers, robot duplicates or inter-reality swapping. Add to the confusion? Always. The 150th Issue has Sonic 'sleeping around' with various females from the forest as Sally has dumped him, Tails hates him for 'stealing his girl' (a female who did not like Tails in the first place) and a traditionally weak/cowardly character (Antoine the fox) beating Sonic badly in a battle. This seems like Bizzarro World!
What has happened to our heroes? Rumors are flying that they are trying to 'kill off' the entire 'Archieverse arc' to favor a new, more game-related/Sonic-X like arc...but this seems an absurd way to do it. Time will tell....
