Official SoCal TFans Thread

Welcome all TFans in the southern California area: Orange county, Riverside, SFV, LA, Seal, Long Beach.

This is the thread for all of these areas.

Keep your selves tuned to here for when and where our next SoCal TFans get together will be.

Also if you're in the area.......who are you, where are you, introduce yourselves.

Well our first get together was great!

Just a few normal (non-geeky) guys talking about our favorite toys.

Thanks to hunter for bringing is SW transformers to show us. I'll tell you that the Obi wan starfighter is everything I expected it to be....all right I wrte a review else where. And thanks to Clutch for bringing us his trade/sale stuff and for hooking us up w/ a WS transformer Megs, which by the way was the best of the lot out of all the WS line.....clutch had all of them.

We were there [starbucks/barns nobal] from 12pm to 5pm. We talked about alot of Tformer related stuff (what else?).

Anyways if any of the rest of you guys want to add something?

So we are on the way to beng a solid group.

As far as a next meet, I'm thinking sometime next month somewhere over at the obby shop where clutch gets all of his import transformers. How's that sound guys?

thats not a bad idea, but i'd better do some scouting for an area we can hang out at over there.  i'll also check out the store hours, the strip mall has anime king, but it also has a video game store and a TRU.  if we go there, be sure to bring money, there is bound to be stuff you guys will want, and if anyone is up to it, there is a wal-mart and target on beach blvd not far from there.

anyway, the meet was pretty cool today.  it's always nice to meet new people and get to have serious discussion about things that aren't all that serious.  thanks to skullfire for making the decisions and actually putting this together.  i'm glad you guys liked the WST's. 

It seems it was a pretty good meet & greet thing, I wish I could've gone.
PS, I'm about 15 mins away from Riverside, I live in San Bernardino.

I can't put megs down. this is a great toy....IMO better than sound wave.

i'm glad you like it.  like i said, it's no biggie, i had tons of them.

after we talked about sigma 6 briefly, i decided to go to target and check them out.  i ended up buying the ninja battles pack and the BAT ninja, anyone who likes articulation will love these things. i'll bring them to the next meet so people can check them out first hand.

i think we should decide on a loose meet schedule, like what day we should have meets and how often (i vote for twice a month, on sundays) but everyones input will help.  of course we don't have to decide this right away, but it will help keep everything going.

well once a month I think sounds stable, I'm not sure how twice is for the rest ......hey hunter whats your thoughts?

Sundays seem the best for me right now.

So if I live in the California desert I can't be part of the group?

Smile, dude of course you can be part of the group. We got one member out your way in fontana.....well you're a little futther away but still close enough. Any how welcome to the SoCal TFan fold. 

First off- I had a great time meeting everyone!
I hope more people can come next time.

I really like that we kinda had a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bot) theme, without anyone really setting it ahead of time.  It looks like there are at least 2 collectors who were on the fence and now are enthusiasticly shopping - based on that (the Sigma, and Obiwan).

As for future schedule - I think Once a month is fine.  More than that and i know i will have a problem.  Sundays are also best for me at this point.

As far as age and location - anyone who can legally drive and then is willing to drive - can be a part.  Lobo -  you are absolutely welcome to come and participate. As is Rapid Run.  also not all the meets will be in Long Beach.  We dscussed moving them around a bit so that everyone has an opportunity to be "close to home"

I like the idea of meeting at that Anime shop.  is it in Huntington Beach?  Maybe we could see if they - or a Comic shop would be willing to host - maybe do a promotion or something. 

I would also like to do a movie night.  I really want to see TF:TM in a group with a bunch of Transfans. (also - roumor has it that one of our esteemed collegues has not even seen it at all - ever!!!)

yep let's keep the Ideas rolling.

I'm not too sure about having a store doing a promotion tis early in the game....yes down the line and even better at other comic book stores as well....sort of like a tour. But I really want the group to be a little bit more solid first:

more members.
comic stores used to us.
we get big enough to do cool tings like maybe host an event where Transformer comic writer shows up.
social out reac maybe? transformer toy drives for disadvantage kids.

any or all of these things are possible. really this is an open book.

Anyhow, anyone else, any thoughts?

BTW once a month is perfect.

anyway, i went by that area today, but i forgot to go by the anime store!  dummy me, some reconnaissance person i am.  there is a wendy's there, so we could always meet there, although i don't know how long they'd let us hang out.

anyway, so far the concesus seems to be meeting once a month on sunday.  this is good.  as we met on the third sunday of this month, would the third sunday of each month be a good general schedule?  of course, we would discuss switching up if a holiday was too close to that day, but for the most part, i think that would work.

anyway, before i say anyway again, yeah, i kinda like the sigma 6 stuff.  its ok.  not enough to get me to pick a couple more figs on the way to work or make an avatar about, but i guess they're alright.    i did hear about that most pimpin, highly reguarded and esteemed member of our club who hasn't seen the TF movie yet.  we'll definitely have to have a movie meet to change that.  i'll keep an eye out for a good place for that.

Yep you're right on all accounts.

But like the old saying goes '' if you build it they will come'' that's how I look at things.

I think it would call for someone like you or I to be a mod but I don't mind the extra responsbility.

Also I want to get intouch w/ who ever is headng the group in SFV.

Sounds good though.  I gotta get out of this town every once and a while. Sundays work the best for me as well.

Maybe I could bring some of my bashes so you guys can see them up close.

Anyhow, as earlier suggested by clutch, keeping a consistant sunday of every 3rd sunday of the month is a great Idea.

I think we need to set a particular sunday of the month. 3rd sunday sounds great!

well for the next one we are looking at the 3rd sunday of the month, Like we agreed, and it looks like the anime shop in huntington that clutch mentined seems perfect. I think we should meet at what ever fast food place is there......I think he said wendy's.

actually, i believe there is a starbucks right there as well.  i haven't been over there in about a week, but with ricochet and rollbar spotted in the area, looks like i'm headed that way friday or sat.

the only concern i have is that the anime store may not be open on sundays.  i'll check to make sure and do some more proper reconnaissance soon.  i'll make up a battle plan map and put some mapquest linkies up when i do.

it looks like the starbucks in my earlier message is a sham, it's one of those crappy ones that are in the middle of an albertsons.

there is a wendy's on the opposite end of the strip mall, as i mentioned earlier, and early reconnaissance shows that it is probably our best bet for infiltration.  the anime store appears to be accessable from 11 am-6 pm on the target date, so that is a go. 

so, here is the proposed secret battle plan:

here is a secret map showing the relative location of the wendy's to the rest of the stuff.  the red X is the rondezvous location.  we will meet there at exactly 1200 hours on sunday.  we will probably have to buy something, then we will hang out until they kick us out.  we will then proceed to infiltrate the other targets of interest, the TRU and anime king.

this is the plan, LMK if this OK.

Sounds interesting... but Sunday just so happens to be my busy day... wacky that huh?

since it's short notice and hunter will have difficulty showing up, then i will move to officially have the meet on sunday the 26, same location and time, if everyone agrees.

everybody LMK what you think and since no one actually "roll called" in yet do that too if you're down.

Should i be planning on buying something - is it reasonably priced there?

yeah, that anime store is the one i got all my gf and takara reissues from, but with TRU right next door and most of cybertron already out, i don't know if they will have much you'll want this late in the game.  i'd plan on buying something just in case, but i wouldn't plan on going crazy.

i fought the temptation to go in there all this week and most of last so hopefully they will surprise me.  btw, i found dark crumplezone on a wal-mart shelf today, so i'm pretty sure soundwave sightings will start happening soon.

ah blast......I can't make it. I just got off from performing (it's 2:43 am right now) and I am dead tired. And I have a meeting tomorrow to discuss future performances at the same gallery space. Anyhow I think this month is just bad for me and so will the next month.....performing in hollywood 2 weekends in a row and then another on the last saturday at this new venue.

How about if we exchange numbers through the PM.

Also, I'm seeing that my weekday scadual is more condusive for meeting up after 6pm than meeting up on te weekend ...at least until april.

You guys have a good time and some one PM me w/ a phone number so I can catch up w/ what happened,

The Second Socal TFans Meet was lowkey.
Clutchjunkie and I hung out at Wendys and discussed some ways to drum up some attention and get more people involved.

It seems that many have posted that Sundays are not so good for them - Please everyone - make suggestions for times and locations!!

I know I have a few places in the Pasadena/Hollywood area that would be great to meet at. But there has to be people interested in coming.

It seems to me that the decisions of when and where to meet should be more democratic.

So we strolled over to the Anime King store and they had a surprising amount of Transformers (usually Anime shops tell me that TF's are an American Property ).

I bought a GF-Starscream ($35) and debated a Blue BT-prowl. ($55)

We then went to TRU where we were confronted by some abomination of a hairless robotic Chimp's head!! 

we then went back to Clutch's car where he showed off his GF-Soundwave
and i opened my Starscream

I bitched about the Cybertron cartoon a little and he urged me to watch past the first couple episodes.

It was small - but I had a good time.
So far all the guys i have met have been cool and non-INTERNET-Scary.

If we go by the original 3 guys who started this - then its my turn to set a place & Time.
My initial thought is at Nucleus in Alhambra. I still really want to do a movie night (whether it be TF:TM or Cybertron)

ALSO- the Grand Slam convention is going to be in Pasadena on March 10-12
(See thread here)

BUT-
I would like to get more feedback from every one first...

A good place to do a meeting would be in Los Angeles, they have this monthly convention that has a lot jp tf's and stuff like that. I wish I remember where that was.

So Cal Transfan get together? ?? When and where!? !
