Big Grim
why, it's only $1.00
Taz-bot
I'm talking about the month it self. Get the BW comic and some Transformers and this. Tons of other stuff to. That's what I meant.
Big Grim
ah, yes. I feel your pain. March is gonna be a killer month.

I see you understand now. I guess I should of said that the first time, so my bad.
Starscreamer
that looks like an axed Blue Beetle...am I right?
Big Grim
actually, no one knows who it is yet. Well, none of my contacts know who it is. Just like with Identity Crisis, we probably won't know who it is until the first issue comes out. And just like in Identity Crisis the death toll will rise throughout the course of the story.

I'd hope so. Countdown is only a one-shot icon_wink.gif
Starscreamer
Well it is a one shot like No Mans Land was or AoA Alpha...one book to start it off
Big Grim
yeah, Countdown is another crossover event that just begins in that issue. It is called Countdown after all. And if you read books like Superman/Batman, then you have an idea what it's counting down too. In case you missed it, here's what I posted in the Identity Crisis thread:
QUOTE
more info from my contacts you guys, EVERYTHING that came up in Identity Crisis will be expanded upon in 2005. And I do mean EVERYTHING. The next big event, Countdown, begins in March. Well, technically we're in countdown right now. You see, all the big DC writers (Loeb, Goyer, Johns, Meltzer, Winnick, Rucka, etc) having been laying the seeds for the past year. And especially if you read Superman/Batman or Teen Titans, lotta clues in there. Even stuff that went down in JLA/Avengers and what's going on in JLA with the CSA will be involved. And more people are gonna die. It all begins in March with an 80-page issue, and Batman's holding a corpse on the cover. But we (my contacts and I) have no idea who it is.
Starscreamer
One book to start it all, One book to spark it...one book to pull our intrest, one book to make us buy them...

sorry...lol
Big Grim
welp, screamer just proved how big a geek he really is optimuslaugh2.gif
Starscreamer
one of the few who can go toe to toe wit ya biggrintf.gif
Big Grim
that is true, which sadly shows how big a nerd I am. But you shall never surpass me in my comic book knowledge. Especially since I have a line to "the powers that be" of comic books.
Starscreamer
oh? what is Bendis' number? I still want to talk to him about the whole Monky f8cking thing from Powers...heh heh...hmmm...Powers Thread?
Big Grim
I don't have a direct line, it's more like I know a guy who knows a guy. I've been friends with the manager at my comic shop for over 7 years. He goes to EVERY major comic convention and has mingled with some of the hottest writers and artists. So he gets on the inside scoop a lot, and shares this info with me. Oh, and apparently there are a lotta pornstars at comic cons too. He says Aria Giovanni's as dumb as hell rodimusgrinstatic.gif

update at newsarama about Countdown and how DC's been setting all of this up for the past 2 years.
http://www.newsarama.com/pages/DC/Didio_Countdown.htm
Strikeback
I wonder if this ties into the interview Didio & Quesada did in Wizard. Didio said the breakout character of '05 was going to be Blue Beetle--and I'm assuming he did it with a straight face.

(BTW: Batman looks like he's holding Nightwing)
Zombie Rodimus
Anyone object to a wee bit of analysis?

Okay, well, it's Batman holding the body, and looking pretty upset about it. There are, of course, numerous people whose deaths Batman would be pretty upset about.

The body itself is clearly male, because it has no breasts, and in comics, that's the one defining feature above all others of women.

Superman is also pretty damn upset about it. This leads me to think Nightwing, since Supes and Dick were quite close. The refutation is, Nightwing is a popular character so why kill him?

Wonder Woman is holding Supes back. This obviously aludes to the division that's come\is coming about between WW, Supes, and Bats. What else? Looking at it from another perspective, it almost looks as if WW is comforting Clark. What could that mean?

Also: Is there any particular significance to the heroes on the cover? Do all of them have a link to a specific character who could be the corpse?
Thunderdirge
Well...a tiny bit of speculation is to look at the head. The shadow has tatters of a cowl, not a plethora of hair like Nightwing has. So, maybe when one says 'breakout character', perhaps it's more in line with his death sparking this...I have no real speculation on who it is...I just don't think it's Nightwing.
Big Grim
I am so sick of people guessing Nightwing for everything. People actually thought he was the killer in Identity Crisis rolleyestf.gif
For the love of God, people. Nightwing is a DC icon, they're not gonna kill him off anytime soon.
Zombie Rodimus
Well, I did kinda acknowledge that.

Apparently, not even Jim Lee and Alex Ross know who it is, so speculation may just be pointless at this stage.

speculations is always pointless, just wait til the friggin comic comes out. Cuz rarely is anyone ever close to the truth, again i.e. Identity Crisis.

Wait, Nightwing wasn't the killer in Identity Crisis? But he was wearing a trenchcoat and so was the killer!!1!

Yeah, I know that Nightwing's not gonna buy it, but it does look like him. That doesn't mean that it is. Seriously, though, it could be a mutated Comet the super-horse for all I care--he was a shape-changer, right? It still looks good.

PS: Dan Didio publicly acknowledged that the event that started all of this in motion was...

the death of Donna Troy. Hmmm...
Thunderdirge
I'm telling you...it's Guy Gardner under the control of Parallax.

Big Grim
the real cover has finally been revealed. The only real difference is in the title.
DEFENSOR
So when is this supposed to come out?
Big Grim
March 30th I believe
Strikeback
In June, there's a mini called "DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy" that deals with the fallout from this. Can't wait for that one.
Starscreamer
*smack!* sonofa....I think I know who he is holding...christ, what was one of the best covers from crisis? Superman holding SuperGIRL's body!!!

Now Batman is hoding Batgirl!! (that whole homage thing)
Zombie Rodimus
Nah, it looks like a guy.

Could be Blue Beetle, could well be Blue Beetle...
Big Grim
go ahead and speculate, it's fun to watch optimuslaugh2.gif

Ok then...

It's Batman holding the Invisible Woman!!!
Big Grim
I'm just teasing cuz I know who it is, and this week's advance copy proves that my sources were correct.
dj seifer
Oh man... I just picked this up today. Big ol' comic too. While I loved the story, the ending... oh man. First Identity Crisis, now this. I don't think I'll be able to read another JLI-related book ever again.
Big Grim
I know, first Sue and now all this stuff with Beetle, Booster, and Maxwell Lord. You know, I never liked Max but I always thought there was a nice guy somewhere inside there. Guess I was wrong. By the way, we haven't seen the last of Blue Beetle.
Starscreamer
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh I just read this....checkmate...CHECKMATE!! my favorite DC ops group...I can't wait for the Villians book. I am sooo going broke lol
Zombie Rodimus
Well, I read this, and it had completely the effect DC didn't want it to have on me.

You know what the problem with the DCU is? I don't care. I don't care about the characters. I don't care about the lame 90's reference coming back and messing things up. I don't care about 'things never being the same again'. I just can't bring myself to enjoy DC. Even Flash feels dry and wooden as hell, and Countdown only exacerbated this for me.

From now on, I'm a Marvel boy. Interesting characters and good storylines. Not just big explosions all over the place.

see, I love all that stuff. Oh well, enjoy Marvel's lack of continuity bumblebeetounge.gif

i personally dont see how anyone can only buy 1 company's stuff, i tend to not buy as much from Dark Horse, but other than that, the other companies get a fare shake, even image

I agree, I buy from both Marvel, DC, Wildstorm, and DDP. Now, let's try to keep this on topic (Countdown) shall we.
Ultra Magnus
when i preorder all my comics, i dont really take into account which new books are gonna have my interest until it is too late, countdown set up alot of new books that im more than likely gonna miss out on
Big Grim
it's not too late to add them. In an effort to save my money I'm just getting OMAC Project.
Starscreamer
I know teh OMAC and the Villians book are my must reads..
Big Grim
I'll wait for the trades of Villains United, Rann/Thanagar War, and Day of Vengeance. Kinda funny how it has the same title as the last big Spectre event: Day of Judgement.
Starscreamer
well hopefully this will be a bit more satisfying than day of judgement..Serioulsy, all I liked from that was the JLA issue and the Hourman issue..
