Only got Hikaru's 1S at the moment. (Although I ordered Max's 1J in May, still waiting on it) in 1/48th scale. Great toy, hate the hands, though. Only pic I have I did for a size comparison of toys. Still like it, though.
That IS my Yamato collection, sadly.

I've owned several Macross toys over the past 6-7 years. From the Yamato Macross Plus Valkyries, to the 1/72 DYRL Valkyries, Macross 7 Models and a VF-1S 1/48 Valkyrie. There are other items too, such as the VF-2ss 1/72 Macross Model, which is really popular.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Makes me really wish they'd release a 1/48 for VF-2ss. Sigh probably will remain vaporware though.
At least we have some good news though on the 1/48 front. Now if they'd only let us know more about the GBP and whether or not it comes with a Hikky.

I need some advice regarding this item. Pre-orders are popping up and this will be my first Macross toy since I was a kid. Throw in a Fast Pack and Display Stand totals the damage to $220 (I can buy a lot of BT and TCS reissues with that kind of money!) which is not too unreasonable considering the awesome detail of the toy.
The biggest problem I am having is price versus durability. I know that it is more of a display piece, but considering all 3 modes I know will end up transforming him more than a few times. I am pretty careful with my Alternators, but they seem capable of multiple transformations. How careful do I need to be with a Yamato 1/48? I know the difference in playablity when comparing it to a Bandai 1/55, but what about comparing it to transforming capabilites of Alternators. Is the Yamato more delicate? While I don't see myself buying a spare Alt. Tracks for parts, should I do for the Yamato 1/48?

I broke one.

There's a thread about it:
http://www.TFans.com/talk/index.php?showtopic=6128I find them more delicate than BTs are (the VB-6 Konig also frightens me) but I'm totally hamfisted so adjust according to your own skill level. I prefer simpler more durable transformations. But I love the way the Yamato stuff looks in display.

The 1/48's a nice toys but the quality of the plastic seems to feel a bit on the flimsy side. As far as durability goes, the 1/48 is not too shabby but expect parts to pop off here and there (most notorious are the wing flaps). Nothing flakes (as in the case of Binaltechs) during transformation. It works out better as a display piece as opposed to a plaything. And it looks pretty bad-ass no matter what mode it's in on your shelf. The FAST packs do make the 1/48's back heavy.
I personally love the 1/60's (I have every single one). They're now relatively cheap (at least cheaper than the 1/48's) and have diecast legs (there is very little zinc in the 1/48's). The 1/48's are nice toys but waaay expensive if it's going to be something you want to play with on a regular basis. I suggest that if you want but one ULTIMATE Macross toy, get the 1/48 and display it. If you want something more to play with, stick with the 1/60's or 1/55's.
I remember there being some good reviews of the 1/48's over at macrossworld.com. Hope this helps.

1/48s are better in design and far more show accurate than any other scales. 1/60s are nice but they have their share of problems too. Demand for the 1/48s easily surpasses all the rest even the 1/55s. Read the other Macross toy threads here, I'll bump them.

They are overpriced and charge waay too much for shipping too. No pickups even if you live in the same fracking city! Nuts.

My Alt. Mode Sucks
Aug 21 2005, 11:33 PM
I recently (actually, Saturday) got my first (and probably only) Veritech, the 1/60 Yamato VF-1S Strike Veritech. It's a great toy, and from what I hear it's far better for "playing" with, as I've already transformed it several times. Khan told me about the breakage of his 1/48, so while they look nice, and you don't need to remove parts (you need to remove the legs for transformation on the 1/60, but I'm not really put off by that factor), but from what I hear they're quite fragile compared to some toys, like BTs (which are still durable, as they have playability potential). My 1/60 came to about $137 with shipping included -- granted, the 1S is pretty much the most popular version (DAMN YOU JETFIRE FOR HELPING MAKE THE MOLD SO POPULAR! Err...wait, I like Jetfire

), but it's one of my favorite toys yet, and I just got it yesterday. Still, whatever floats your boat.

Yeap. That's why I love 'em! Cheaper, comes with a ton of accessories, looks pretty good, is pretty durable (watch for paint wear on those legs), and they all have a nice Chogokin heft!

SOC is a new-ish (been out for a while now) line of zinc-packed Ban Dai remakes (often cooler remakes) of classic toys from yesteryear (YEAH! DANCOUGA! GAIKING!). They also include miscellaneous titles like EVA and Godzilla. Good stuff but pricey.

http://www.tmpanime.com/index.php?main_pag...products_id=647 I got some, but the 4" ones are better if you got the 2" and 6" ones to mix and match otherwise the 4" don't provide much variety when displaying. TM only has the 4" ones left, after that they are sold out.

Aug 24 2005, 06:15 PM
Anyways, back on topic and away from the SOC bit... the 1/48s are the most show accurate transformation. The 1/48 scale Yamato Macross toys are for collectors and they are expensive in comparison to the 1/60s. Most people mistakenly believe they are oh so flimsy, but they aren't. I have over 10 of them and many collectors don't have any problems either. Read up on the tips @ MW for new collectors b/c transforming it while complex is half the fun!

The transformation of the 1/48 is what makes it for me. That and the fact that it's pretty big!
