This is an all new Batman continuity. Think X-Men: Evolution. It's basically Batman year three, as indicated in today's ep. I thought it was pretty good, but I found it odd that Wayne Manor is in downtown Gotham. Ah well. But I did not like the Joker's voice, to me Mark Hamill is the Joker. But I'll probably get used to it. So what do you guys think of this show?

I had the same "Hey, that's the wrong voice" reaction to both Joker and Bruce. Well, actually, Alfred too, now that I think about it. I did enjoy it, but I was left with a kind of "Hmm, it's just not the same" sort of feeling. I think I'll grow to like it more, but I probably would be a lot more interested if Justice League Unlimited weren't around.

Wasn't too bad at all. The animation looks like it's done by the same company that does the new Ninja Turtles. Maybe even Jackie Chan Adventures. The voice for Joker really threw me though. But it seems like the voice got better towards the end of the show. I'm sure I'll either get used to it, or the voice will improve, or possibly both.
Batman himself looked pretty kickass. I miss Commissioner Gordon though.
And in case anybody missed it this week, it's showing again on Friday afternoon at 4:30. God bless TiVo.

The executive producer is the same person that does the charecter designs for Jackie Chan. That is propably why they look so similar. (I read credits) Jeff Mastrauda (sp?) did art for X-Force till about issue 130 and Kaboom under an independent label. I noticed that the charecters in Jackie Chan had his same style, which is anime influenced, but lack the big eyes small mouth. I read the credits, and BAM! my suspicions were confrimed. I noticed Jeff's name on the credits of "The Batman"
The story look very interesting. I like the cops investigating the existance of this bat person. However, I saw in a preview The Penguin jumping around in a tree, and bicycle kicking The Batman. Not only were these out of charecter, they were so physicially impossible, they looked stupid. Until that episode, I think it will be good, just as long as each episode isn't "look at the newest batgadget, aviable at Target" like other cartoons *caugh* He-Man*cough*
j/k I loved He-Man R.I.P.

Well, Penguin spent some time in the orient. That's where he got those martial art skills. Besides, I've seen short stubby men do well in martial arts before. But it is funny to watch the Penguin do it. Pretty good ep, and the comic that's based on it isn't too shabby either. I can't wait to see Catwoman and Bane when they make their appearance.

It isn't bad. It just isn't the way I imagined the Penguin. I like it. I see it like this "The Batman"= "'Ultimate' Batman the Animated Series"

funny, I look at Justice League and Justice League Unlimited as Ultimate Justice League just cuz it's so radically different than the comic continuity. I also like this show, it's different, but not in a bad way. I'm just sick of hearing all this Batwave nonsense, it gets old. This show also reminds me of Extreme Ghostbusters, remember that show? It had Egon leading a buncha college students.

Extreme Ghostbusters ruled! I remember getting up 30 minuets earlier for school than I normally would jsut so I could watch that show. I ddin't know that the Justice League Unlimited show was so different from the comic. I am more of a marvel fan.
The Batman is mostly the same, but the vilians seem to be very different. I like Joker's new look, but he just seems crazy, and not The Batman's nemesis.

today's ep featured Bane and the Batbot. I enjoyed it cuz Bane is one of my fav villains. It's just too bad that the actual toy of the Batbot is not the same color as it is in the show. It's more of a red and grey color scheme

Bane this soon? I missed this episode. Is he the "breaker of the Batman", or just some steriod lovin punk?
Big Grim
Sep 27 2004, 09:21 AM
he wasn't a steroid loving punk in Batman:TAS either. His origins were pretty much the same as they were in the comic, and this time again as well. Went through illegal experiments while in the Amazon, now he acts as a hired gun but really plans to take Gotham for himself. He beats Batman in the first round, but then when Bats uses the Bat Bot, he fairs a little better.

OK, so I've seen a few episodes of the new animated "The Batman," which chronicles a young Bruce Wayne's early years of fighting crime in Gotham City--so, no James Gordon, Robin, Batgirl or anything like that. But everytime I watch the show, something comes up that bothers me: they completely changed the backstory so that it's almost like "Batman 2.0" instead of a precursor to the original "Batman: TAS." For example, Mr. Freeze was a diamond thief who fought Batman inside a cryogenics lab and was imprisoned inside an experimental freezing pod for a year or two, then emerged with the ability to create ice from his body. His suit is half-robotics, half-ice-encased Freeze. Bane--in addition to showing up years before he has to--is still a brute, but when he takes Venom he Hulks out and becomes this big red ugly-ass monster instead of just getting all huge. Man-Bat is completely bat-sh*t insane to begin with--Kurt Langstrom isn't the misguided scientist, but rather Dr. Frankenstein.
I know that this series is technically supposed to take place within continuity of the original Batman animated series, but the tech is too new and the villains all seemed to have had their origins retconned beyond belief. I'm sorry to Starscream on such this show--to it's credit, the animation is excellent and the writing is really good--but it's weird to see the "everything old is new again" approach they've taken and not wonder how everything got reset. Any thoughts, or have I gone off the deep end here?
Big Grim
Feb 17 2005, 07:12 AM
dude, this isn't the same continuity at all. Period. It's like comparing the X-Men cartoon from back in the day on Fox Kids to X-Men: Evolution. This is completely new and attempting to play off the Batman Begins movie. It's like Batman's answer to Ultimate Spider-Man. It's Bats from teh beginng, if he started in the 21st century.

Feb 17 2005, 07:15 AM
so essentially, it's batman rebooted, right? sans the 50 or so years of continutiy.
I watched the show, and I find it refreshing. It allows Bruce/batman to get back to his roots with out having to worry about tons of stuff from the past.

when they first did a press release for this, they flat out said this was an entirely separate continuity having nothing to do with the Timmverse (Batman: TAS, Superman, Batman Beyond, Justice League, etc...)

meh Batman:TAS is the gold standard as far as I'm concerned. Best character designs ever, across the board. And the animation and direction in the original episodes were killer. The whole retro Batman thing has already been done anyway.

OK, not a real big fan of The Batman. But I just read this description for season 4 on wikipedia and this might get me interested. They even brought in Kevin Conroy to do the voice of John Grayson, Dick's father.
Season 4 features a redesign of Bruce Wayne/Batman, with a stronger chin structure and new nose. The season also introduces Dick Grayson/Robin (Evan Sabara) into the series as well as more villains, such as Tony Zucco (Mark Hamill), Killer Moth (Jeff Bennett), Black Mask (James Remar), Everywhere Man (Brandon Routh), Harley Quinn (Hynden Walch), Rumor, and a new Clayface (Wallace Langham). One episode will be set in the future, taking place in 2027 Gotham where Barbara Gordon has become Oracle, Dick Grayson is Nightwing, and Batman resembling Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns version of the character, complete with a new tank like Batmobile. The fourth season of The Batman has been referred to by the creators as the most "Fan Friendly" season.

I've seen a few episodes of the Batman. It's a decent show if you don't take it seriously. Alot more 'for kids' than TAS ever was. I'm sure I'd have loved it when I was a kid (bear in mind I didn't really like TAS as a kid but do now).
They've recently started showing the series where Batgirl (not really a fan of her) shows up (no Robin or anyone yet) here. Which series is that?

well apparently the JLA are in the Batman now. Which I have mixed feelings about: I'm glad they're back in animation, but what was the point of cancelling JLU to only have a new animated version (which looks very similar in style) less than a year later? Especially when there was nothing wrong with the old version.

George Newbern as Superman/Clark Kent + Dana Delaney as Lois Lane + Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor = SUCCESS!!!

I for one enjoyed it. I prefer my Superman to be a dick, and I like to reversal, where Batman is the one who strives for teamwork, and Superman preferring the solitude. Quite an interesting dynamic. Ad, yes, having the voices of the original Superrman TAS/Justice League (Unlimited) cast involved was quite fitting. I still, however, prefer the voice of Kevin Conroy, whose absense is all the more glaring with the inclusion of these three voice actors.
Also, where is Batgirl?
Big Grim
Sep 23 2007, 09:43 PM
I agree with you on Kevin Conroy, and it is interesting to see Batman trying to get Superman to join the League, since the exact opposite happened in the Timmverse. As for Batgirl, part 2 perhaps?

saw part 2, still pretty good. Green Arrow appears next week, he said one line in the preview. At first I thought it was Kin Shriner (voice in JLU), but I checked and he's voiced by someone named Chris Hardwick. Looking forward to it, I bet they're gonna do an ep with Batman and whoever until they've introduced all the members of the League, and then do a big ep with all of them. By the way, anyone else getting crappy reception on Kids WB on their digital cable, it's like their shows are being aired on dirty tapes or something.
