Suppose to make things interesting, both the Autobots and Decepticons were limited to one team of combiners - their ultimate weapon they pull out when things get tough. Which team would each side choose for themselves?

i would have to say aerialbots because they are the best proportionatly. defensor has groove which is supposedly the same size as a helicopter. Im a G1 fan and all, but im just saying proportion looks much better than seeing blast off the same size as swindle.

I mean for g1, it was dominated by Superion, Defensor only appeared in the last episode. Computron had 2 or 3 appearances I believe...

but as far as toys go, I like Defensor the best

As far as Character - I like Defensor. I also like Defensor's design. As toys go Defensor also wins. Now I do like Superion, but I'm gonna have to go with Defensor.

Computron it is. Schweet ass Cybertronian alt modes, and a good mix up of vehicle types and of character personalities.

Defensor, meh. His whole nature is defined by his name--defense. Seems like he wouldnt be much of an aggressor. Besides, emergency vehicles just dont do it for me.

Superion, meh. Jets are all pretty similar looking and a combiner made of of 5 things that all look alike is just kinda well.....meh.

I went with Superion because with out him the Autobots would be severly lacking in air power.

maybe i am way off but if we distill each team down to "one ultimate weapon" then we kinda end up getting Devastator for the Deceps, and ....

Omega Supreme (which was a combiner of sorts) for the autobots

Computron. My first Transformer ever.

The most balanced vehicle types, the smartest combined mode, and very distinct individual personalities.

From a tactical point of view its gotta be Superion. He can fly real fast directly towards you, suddenly disassemble into 6 scattering jets which strafe you, then recombine behind you. Then my friend its syonara!

the best-looking assembled gestalt out of the three is Computron, I don't care very much for Defensor and Superion

I like very much the Aerialbots toys and characters, the Technobots' alt modes (Afterburner's the coolest), the toys Hot spot and Blades and the character First aid

Groove being the same size as the three other little guys is also a bit hard to believe to me

is it just me or Lightspeed looks like a fat african mama in robot mode? his cartoon counterpart is more handsome...

Technobots without a doubt. Do any of you have Scattershot? He is one of the most articulated G1 bots that there is. He really kicks arse.

Are there any other Autobot gesalts that were missed? It seems the 'Cons have a disproportionate number of combiner teams.

My choice would be Defensor.

Toywise: I think the seperate units looks the best in both car and robot mode, and the combined mode is also a very sturdy and reliable looking robot. I liked Superion and Computron, but Superion his legs are too thin and with Computron I'm not too fond of the independent modes (although he is a close second).

Capabilities: Defensor is the best working Autobot gestalt with the five individuals working in perfect harmony. He also is the most heavily armed (he has two guns) and is equipped with a defensive shield. Also, unlike Superion, he can be active on both land and air (Computron beats that by being active on land, air and space).

Character: Computron and Defensor are the best with Computron being too smart to be effective while Defensor being troubled because the humans he wants to protect fearing him.

I'll take Computron because he has the best mix of vehicled.

I think Defensor if the best character, the most personable. But Comutron, in addition to having some of the most heavily armed bots (Strafe and Scattershot are armed to the teeth and more than a little trigger-happy) has the advantage of massive info/intel gathering abilities and the brainpower to maximize the use of that info.

Computron all the way!

He was my first combiner and just looks big and bulky. He is also better proportioned. Superion is a little loosy and skinny. Defensor is a bit better but still no Computron.

But each Autobot combiner team was cool.

Well, in Japan the autobots got Raiden (around the time that Rebirth was happening in the US), who's my favorite gestalt next to Devastator, and seemed to be the inspiration for both Sixtrain and Rail Racer. His individual bots aren't nearly as cool as the constructicons, but his combined mode is excellent.

But if we're keeping it American G1, I'd go with Computron.

I just couldn't get past the idea about Superion having Jet arms.. everytime you see it, those arms seemed to bulk up in the toon. I dunno.. it just sorta bothered me.. I personally never owned a Technobot.. but I do have Defensor. He reminds me a lot like a good Bruticus.. I would actually like to see those two in a death match of sorts. Bruticus throwing all he's got at Defensor, and Defensor doing what he does best.. waiting for Brut to run out of ammo =P

There's more than one way to beat an opponent ya know.

Not that it would ever happen, but who of the combiner teams would win in a "last-bot standing" death match? I'm curious.

Computron is not bad, but I feel superion kicked some major butt
when it came to fighting time.

Right now on the mantle at home I've got Devastator, Menasor, Bruticus and Abominus facing off against Superion, Defensor and Raiden.... I've just gotten my last missing Techno's from eBay, Scattershot and Strafe, and am just awaiting a few loose parts namely fists, head, and one foot plate.

I figure they'll fight while we're asleep - we'll see who's standingin the morning.

Superion. More effective than defense minded Defensor. And Computron is more of a tactician than a warrior. Superion was combat designed, and is very effective. Superion was brought on more missions by Optimus and Rodimus, therefor making him the pick of the litter.

BTW, in Japan didn't the Decepticons have a combiner group known as the Seacons? Who did they combine into and does anyone have any pics?

Seacons combined into Piranacon. I have Overbite toy

I picked Superion. Without the Arialbots the Decepticons would own the skys.
