ok, so sure they screwed up with Tom Goes to the Mayor and Super Milk Chan...BUT they scored with Venture Bros...so for equal hamony of the universe this next show has to do well...but why? because dude, this show does stop motion with classic action figures! I saw the preview and they had Thundercats, He-Man figures, hell even saw a star trek figure and Santa fight Jesus Kill Bill style lol

First off, Tom Goes to the Mayor is the best show AS has ever had (behind Venture Bros). I guess subtle humor is just lost on everyone nowadays. I blame Family Guy.
As for Robot Chicken, any show that plans on doing an American Idol paroday is thumbs down in my book. I don't care if you perform it with action figures or naked women, nothing will ever make a show that thinks American Idol parodies are funny worth watching. It's just going to be SNL with toys.

Apparently you've not read a "Twisted ToyFare Theatre" comic in ToyFare magazine. They're funny(involving wit AND bathroom fun), whereas SNL is not. Sheesh, I actually prefer watching MAD TV to SNL now.

I liked it, laughed the first few minutes and then sat there the rest...which kinda sucked. It's a lot funnier when it's fast paced and randomly funny. Those are the times when I laughed, and I laughed hard. Hopefully they'll tweak the formula in the next few episodes.

I thought it was a very bad show with all the edge of a Mad TV claymation sketch. That is to say, none.
You guys fell right into the trap though. They figured if they used well known toys, people would be too busy going "OMG OPTIMUS PRIME" to realize that they forgot to write good jokes. Yes I did think it was cool that it's a stop motion show using Transformers and other toys, but not once did it make me laugh.
And oh boy, a joke about Mr T and the "this is your brain on drugs" commercial?! It sure is great to be living in 1999, huh? Maybe they'll parody Titanic next week if we're lucky!
Sorry guys, but I can't give this show points just because it used Transformers. It was bad. Bland and boring writing, pure and simple. A big letdown. I think everyone is just clouded with nostalgia. And that, sadly, is why this show will succeed.

It's Seth Green's show. He's an action figure NUT.
Now, I saw Robot Masters Optimus, Mirage and Starscream. No clue where Bumblebee's arms came from. No clue where Ratchet came from. Arcee was a GIJoe kitbash.
Prime at the end was the Masterpiece version.
The thing I really noticed was how well Action Masters blend with the Robot Masters in terms of scale. I loved the touch of blending them with kitbashed '84/'85 G1 parts and may just do that with the ultra cheap reissues at Toys 'R Us (most under $10 at the local one) if I can get my hands on Action Masters.

Wow. Personal insults because I thought a show blew.
You're right, the show was full of great satire. It was great that they stuck it to that anti-drug commercial from 5 years ago. Edgy and topical!
They sure zinged Mr. T! Awesome satire!
A Teletubby smoking a joint? OH THE SATIRE IT HURTS SO GOOD
Seriously.
South Park is good satire. The Daily Show is good satire. The Simpsons is good satire. Robot Chicken is only good satire if you think Adam Sandler movies are rife with satire.
This show is about as hard to "grasp" as Saturday Night Live. Which is to say there is nothing there to grasp. It's also like Saturday Night Live in that it was full of blatant and non-subtle humor and they had no idea when to stop a joke. For example, the Transformer sketch would have been funnier had they stopped before Optimus yelled "I don't even have a prostate!" because it's a much funnier idea that a transformer would have a prostate in the first place.
It's one thing to tell me you disagree with me. But to tell me that I am not grasping a show that aims lower than Shrek 2 is an insult of the highest caliber. Oops, I better add a smily to make my post passive-agressive like yours!
Alright, sorry I ruined your Robot Chicken thread everyone. But when some geriatric (isn't this show on past

Now in a much more civil vein, I have developed a theory about Adult Swim shows.
There are 2 kinds of shows on Adult Swim: Subtle and Blatant. Subtle shows are show like Space Ghost, Home Movies, or Tom Goes to the Mayor, where the humor is more low key and not shoved in your face. Blatant shows are Sealab, ATHF, and now Robot Chicken, which are shows that feature explosions, physical comedy, swearing, all that kind of humor. And Venture Bros somehow magically appeals to everyone.
Anyways, I have noticed that, for the most part, people stick to one kind of show. I am in the subtle camp, so I don't care for many of the blatant shows. And I would assume that many of you who like Robot Chicken are also huge ATHF and Sealab fans.
So what do you think? Does my assumption hold any water?

Back when AS started though, I would have put all the shows in one category. Sealab and ATHF used to bridge subtle and blatant comedy very well.

They were making fun of things that we (older people) grew up with. Things we would appreciate. They are not trying to be current like South Park or Daily Show (both of which I enjoy). I lost interest in The Simpson years ago, I hate Adam Sandler movies.
Your right they were using blatant humor/non-subtle humor. I never said they were. The fact is that most everything they were doing was based on stuff that was off television before you were 5 is what I meant about you not being able to appreciate it. Maybe you just feel your too mature for such things or are trying to be all grown up. I don't know and I don't care. I was not, and am not trying to insult you. I was probably alittle harsh and I apologize for that. Also, I was not being passive-aggressive I was just playing around. To be honest, I'd have to agree. I can't stomach Tom goes to the Mayor, but your observation does indeed hold water. This is exactly the kind of thing that one wouldn't blink an eye at for it coming on with ATHF, Sealab and the like. However, the observation that this is merely a live action arm of Toyfare's comic is all too true, same level of humor, same appeal, etc.
I'm iffy on the show. It felt a lot like the current Saturday night live and though there were a couple gags that got a chuckle out of me, I couldn't watch an entire series if it were just going to be like this again and again. Mostly, I'm liking it for the toy references, but that'll only last a couple of episodes.
Let's hope they get some writers in there that aren't from Toyfare.

And I dont share his opinion either, I think the show was hilarious. Even friends of mine that dont collect toys were rolling on the floor laughing. We all grew up with these toys, and even the commercial with the frying pan. They are playing on our love of the past, and doing a pretty good job of it. True this is the first episode, but it was hilarious and I am sure the majority of the people watching it, who are over 20 really enjoyed the show.

Man i totally LOVED the show last night. wish it was a full 30 mins. 15 mins isnt enough
I also loved the show but, I think 15 minutes is just right. I think a full 30 minutes would be to much. It would make it get old fast. How short and fast paced it was is one of the things I loved about it. While I like the show, I also think there can be to much of a good thing. 15 minutes once a week is perfect.

I agree...I think they should stick w/ the 15 min. format. Considering they can fit 10-15 sketches in that amount of time anyway, I doubt they would be able to fill a half-hour show even if they wanted to...

And oh boy, a joke about Mr T and the "this is your brain on drugs" commercial?! It sure is great to be living in 1999, huh? Maybe they'll parody Titanic next week if we're lucky!
I agree with the this is your brain on drugs bit. That was suck!

Also, I didn't like the toy narrator thing either.

Apparently, you've never read
ToyFare.

that immediately came to mind when I first saw teh commercial for this show.
Ditto that. All I thought of was "Twisted Toyfare Theater."
I wonder if the Toyfare people will sue? TTT uses most all of the figures that they used on the Robot Chicken.
