Nice combo Cheese!! Did have a go at replicating the Mugenbine design myself, and now I undertsand about it being a total bugger to build right, without it wanting to fall backwards, or do the splits!! optimuslaugh2.gif

Think I could do with some form of rubberised matt to display it on, to stop it falling or slipping over. Anyway, here's my attempt, which I christened Mugengine Colossus:

Great job, guys!

Darnit, Overbite. You built it before I could! ...Man, why'd I tell you about the super rare Invisible figure line?! (Geez. I should of believed them when they only said the crazy collectors could have those!) ...White jacket? I'm not that cold! Oh...it's not too bad. Bweheheheha...

*cough*

Anyhow...to get serious (Me, serious? never!) for a moment...has anyone considered kitbashing their candy set figures to add a bit of articulation to them? I'm thinking some of those Balljoints Jin was talking about in his neck tutorial might be the right size to give the Mugenbine figures elbows(and maybe Turbobine-style shoulders? Not sure on that one. Haven't taken a look at my candy sets in a while.), and then to give the bineparts a bit more articulation like on Airleon's animal legs and whatnot.

That hasn't crossed my mind at all and probably never will since I am a horrible, horrible kitbasher and I know I will ruin my figure. I guess I'll have to live vicariously thru you if you decide to try it out Aoi. I wonder if Sasky Mkt has any extras of the first Candy sets for you to try out.
Taaron
I think Rosalinda still has a set. I think they're the only one still actively selling Mugenbine stuff.

But that's okay, this is probably a "post-website" project since all my money'll be going towards that currently.

Hi Guys,
Joel at Big Bad Toy Store has put the Mugenbine Candy Toy set up for preorder on his site! http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product...amp;mode=retail
If you're not comfortable with Ryan's site at Fan2Fan then I would suggest ordering from Joel! I actually think the pricing is pretty close when you factor in shipping!
Taaron
Awesome find, Cheese! Yeah. That is pretty close. I talked to Ryan about it last week, and I think he gave me an example of the shipping being around $21, based on the previous sets.

I kind of think Joel might be able to keep Mugenbine stock longer, judging from how long some of these sets have been around, so I'd wager it might be a bit of a better bet to get them later down the line, after the Japanese market has moved onto the next candy set.

good first attempt Uncle Joe. :thumbThere were some minor problems with it IMO. First it was hard to see what you were doing. The light from outside was too bright. You need some more light on yourself so we can see what you are doing. Second you were prettyfar from the camera so the parts were hard to see againstyour dark colored shirt. What I would suggest you do is keepthe intro like you have it and then cut to a close up of a tableor desk with your hands and the Mugenbine sets so we get abetter shot of which pieces are used and how they go together. It also prevents the pieces from dropping onto the floor.Personally the sound was fine, I just found it hard to see whichpieces you were using to make the figure. Also, do you have videoediting software?

UncleJoe420
Thanks for that Overbite!! I pretty much figured that lighting was probably gonna be my main problem - well, that and dropping bits all over the place. Was thinking that filming it on a desk probably would've helped, but the way i recorded the vid pretty much ruled that out for the time being (but will try and fix that for the next vid I try).

I filmed the vid on my main pc via my cam (which recorded directly to my hdd), which will explain why the vid quality was better than just filming it on the cam alone. Will play around with putting the cam in different positions, and if necessary, setting up my laptop onto a small table so i can do vid that way. Hopefully the change in position might cure the lighting woes as well.. The only video editing software i have is Windows Movie Maker, and Pinnacle Studio..

But at least i got the sound pretty much spot on - guess one out of five ain't bad optimuslaugh2.gif

... and what's wrong with my Gundam shirt? lmao

Oh, before i forget - anyone got any requests about which sets I should film next?
Overbite
if you do decide to shoot from your desk/table as long as there
is enough light to see the parts, you should be fine. You just need
to be aware of strong light sources like windows during the day
and to make sure to use the light properly. In this case you
could have used the window as a light source by putting the
camera inbetween the window and you. Never have your back
to a bright source of light because you will be silhouetted and
people won't be able to see your face. It is the same as taking
a picture with your back to the sun. Since it might be hard to
position the camera between you and the window, moving to another
location or closing the blind might help. Also your camera might
have different settings for indoor and low light shots that could
help you out. Check the instructions.

Personally, I'd like to see the same figure again just reshot. I like how
you started the film but if you can cut away to your desk when assembling
it then it would be fine.
UncleJoe420
Thanks for all the hints Overbite - will try them out when I shoot my next vid, and probably re-shoot the current one. When I used to use my laptop as my main pc, the set-up then was ok, so i could always try moving position to that and see how that works. Will look for a USB extension cable tomorrow, so I can at least try out a new cam position.

.. And I promise that I won't drop anything in my next vid!! optimuslaugh2.gif

Hello True Believers!
For the first time, Hobby link Japan has listed the Mugenbine Candy Toys for preorder! It is the ten piece box set of MugenPharoah which means you get two of each figure for 3000 yen! (28.17 USD, 10.97 Euro) Shipping is only 2800 yen (26.29 USD, 17.80 Euro) not a bad deal at all! You can find it here: http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN950597

It looks like Prominence is in trouble. Someone has placed a self replicating image virus on the site.It will have the server down probably by the end of today the way it keeps filling it up. I don't think the administrator cares much anymore judging by how much pron has shown up there. If you own a PC I wouldn't go there IMO, in case it gets in your hard drive. It doesn't affect MACS.
UncleJoe420
I noticed that - probably the same culprit who was posting the dodgy porn pix!! Did visit the site earlier, and there was only one pic on there of the Mugen Pharaoh. So it may look as though the site owner's had enough too.

BTW, just uploaded a new vid to YouTube of my combo-building, and will post a link once the vid's been processed. Have tried using a different camera position, in combination with a white table. Only downside to the vid - still got a dark shirt on!! optimuslaugh2.gif

I got this in the mail today, but I don't know much about the origin of this piece...was hoping someone could help me out. It's the Red Wings set from MR Rescue, but all of the plastic is translucent. The box is larger than the standard MRR RW set. I didn't notice when I purchased it on eBay either that it's labeled as a Bandai-Asia release and that there is a white sticker over top the barcode that states this item is NOT FOR SALE, FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY. It also states on the back of the packaging that it is not intended for sales or distribution in the USA, Canada or Europe.

So, anyone have any idea about this piece?

That was a limited edition prize for some japanese magazine, I forget which one. Its not that rare. They pop up on e-bay all the time.

Wow this candy set is the best one Bandai has produced for the Mugenbine line. A definite must buy if you like Mugenbine or gestalt robots. Here's a quickie review on these guys.

MugenPharaoh is a series of 5 trading figures with a lemon flavored (or so I've heard) candy inside. It looks like a Sweet Tart that is about the size of a quarter and as thick as a Tums. I've heard the candy is terrible, but since I'm more interested in the collectible figure, it isn't a big issue for me. The series contains five different figures that are boxed individually. They are not blind packed and are numbered so you know which one you are getting. The suggested retail price is ¥3000 per box. The parts are made of a pretty decent quality plastic with minimal painting (just the eyes) and lots of stickers. Fortunately, the stickers are well designed and not too difficult to put on; they fit really well in the spots they are supposed to go. Also all of the parts are sculpted with lots of intricate details and can be painted if you wish. Not included with this release is a Mugenroid or core robot. Instead MugenPharoah follows last year's Mugenbine Build Gattai line of using tiny human pilots called Roiders.

Mugen Anubis:

Pure concentrated awesome. He is very articulated for such an inexpensive figure. He has head rotation and slight head tilt; full shoulder articulation; knee rotation and bending. He only lacks elbows and waist rotation. He comes with a removable helmet and a gold staff. This figure is very posable and stable. Clearly the best figure of the set.

Mugen Sphinx:

A rather unique figure, Mugen Sphinx is pretty much a Sphinx. It has the large human head with head dress and a cat like body. Also included is a silver Roider, named appropriately enough Silver Roider. The legs are in a fixed seated position so it doesn't really look like it moves; it looks more like a statue. While not the worst figure in this set, it is unique in that it is the "vehicle" the Roider pilots and the chains on the side are pretty cool.

Mugen Ra:

Another Phoenix bird figure, I initially thought Mugen Ra would be repaint from the previous candy toys but with new wings and tail parts. Actually it is a completely new mold. The feet are improved over the previous versions (used in Four Holy Beasts; Death Emporer & Golden King sets). I really like the tail details on Mugen Ra.

Mugen Scorpion:

A simple robot scorpion. This figure uses the torso and arms of Mugen Anubis. The tail is very posable and so are the arms and "claws".

Mugen Sobek:

My second favorite of the line. The color scheme is really cool IMO and the croc head is articulated pretty well. It also combines together in an interesting way that hides the gestalt hands too.

Mugen Pharoah:

This gestalt is so cool. Plex did a great job with the Egyptian theme of this figure. The warrior king head dress; the chains on the wrists make it look like it just emerged from some Egyptian tomb. A great figure that doesn't disappoint. Highly recommended if you like Mugenbine figures, robots, and gestalt figures.

UJ I had a chance to look over your last video. It is much better. I do have a few tips if you want them...
First, it seemed that you didn't know how some of the parts were put together at first. I'd recommend
practice building the combo a couple of times before you shoot just so you get an idea of where everything
goes. Fumbling around on the computer looking for what you are going to build is distracting.
Second, I like how you showed the boxes for the sets you were using. How about showing the parts too?
(Not individually, but maybe already placed on the table, ready to be assembled).
Third is it possible to get a close up of the parts that you are going to put together? Can you zoom in more to the desk top when assembling the figures so people can see what you are doing?

I am not familiar with those video editing packages since I am on a Mac. Are you able to "trim" movie clips (remove unwanted footage at the beginning and the end)? Can you "splice" two clips together to make one clip with these programs? If you can I have a few more suggestions.

I hope you don't get discouraged from these tips. This video was much improved over your last one and these tips are to make your future work better and not to pick on you or your work.

Well, to start with I do know how some of the bits are put together, as I usually have a picture on my monitor of the combo I want to build, so I follow that (which makes things a whole lot easier). Granted, fumbling around was only a hiccup on this last vid - something which i shall endeavour not to repeat..

As I was assembling the combo, I did show the parts to the camera. Since my current webcam lacks a zoom function, you'll have to make do with the running commentary. I guess a new camera position may help rectify this but since I only have natural lighting at the moment, a new camera position may not improve matters.

The packages do allow for a bit of clip editing - what exactly did you have in mind?

To tell you the truth, even though I assume you mean well with all these hints etc, it does slowly seem like I'm not sure why I bother... huffermad.gif
