Full Version: Super quick Unicron Review

Recently there was a thread debating which would have been the better Unicron: Armadacron or Neocron. The arguments against Armadacron were, that it looked Playskooly in form and color, and that it's planet mode was non-spherical and, well... craptacular.

Well, today I got a Armacron at a ridiculous discount, and in the box it still had that Playskooly look, but for $15, I said F it.

So, an hour later (literally) of undoing twist ties and tape, then I put the whole thing together, and...HOLY CRAP. There's nothing Playskool about it. With the wings on and spread and the bot taking any pose you can think up, he looks serious...imposing. A little bit Armada, and a whole lot of G1. I was going to wait for the black one to come down in price because I thought this one looked "little-kiddy", but it totally doesn't.

Planet mode - The rings have little handles at the mid points so that the mouth can be faced forward when the toy is held in planet mode. That flat area in the back/bottom is not acually flat either. There is a flat surface to the rear hemisphere, but IT IS STILL A HEMISHPERE.

This thing is also gigantic in the best way. Towering over my Optimal Optimus and Metroplex.

Anybody that doubts this toy based on the half a planet, playskool argument, pick it up before they're gone, and I'm sure you'll love it. Get the orange one if you're G1 happy, too. smiletf.gif

Here's a pic of him holding WST Megs (hard to tell) in the vastness of space. (Hope e doesn't turn around!)

Tomorrow I will show how he is not a half sphere...

I expected a shorter review, something more along the lines of 'IT RULES!', those where my thoughts when I got it 1,5 year ago... Anyway, I wish you a lot of fun with Uni.
THE STIG
i had a unicron...but i gave it up for store credit (along with energon omega supreme) so i can buy my alts. those are the only two tf's i can honestly say i wont get the pleasure of owning/tranforming. those two really did make my collecting look huge! o well. seeing new pics of unicron make me want it more haha...
Hot Rod
I love my unicron (G1 coloresque of course).... It is one of the crown jewels of my collection... for one thing HE'S F'N HUGE!!!! and one of the most posable TFs ever!... couple that with his awesome paint scheme and ominous visage he makes an incredible addition. Thanks for the review Splendic... it's funny cause I just had mine out to tinker with the other day. And I see you took his extra planet kibble off too while he's in robot mode thumbsup1.gif

I heartily agree, especially with E-Omega who I barely can call a true TF, the BTs are the best thing released since RID...well, Galaxy Force is pretty sweet too! thumbsup1.gif

It's amazing seeing how often ppl exaggerate. 5 years ago? That would be 2000.. IIRC, Unicron was released in 2002, at the earliest. 2003's biggie was the E. repaint, and 2004 was Omega.

BTW, I have Omega and Unicron on opposing sides of the top of my bookshelf, and both have this menace to them. I absolutely love them, especially considering both are poseable (O.S. not so much, but enough). I'm also starting to really want an E. Unicron, but that is both way too much room and way too expensive..

He said "1,5 year ago", which I'm pretty sure was supposed to be "1.5 year ago".

Believe it or not the planet kibble is tucked away behind his back. A teeny-tiny bit was poking out that I PS'ed away. I hate to take pieces off if not absolutely necessary.

...Planet picture later...
