Looks great

I wish they went with the normal universe orgin of Doom rather than the Ultimate version (with him turning into metal as a result of being part of the FF's trip into space)...
In the Ultimate FF series, the five characters gain their powers by an "experiment gone awry" in which they have accidental contact with another dimension. I think the Ultimate premise would have been better for the movie since, given current space explorations, the "cosmic ray" idea is somewhat goofy.
Although I don't mind if they take some freedoms with the comic book premise, I don't think this movie looks very promising for many reasons:
1) The Thing looks terrible. The design from old FF movie, as bad as it was, actually looks better. The Thing, with its abstract proportions, absolutely could NOT be properly realized by any technique other than CGI. This "Thing" just looks like a dork in a rubber suit.
2) Cosmic rays, as explained above.
3) The special effects don't look particularly impressive. Although the "Thing vs. the truck" scene was cool, everything else seemed poorly done. Johnny's flaming action and Reed's extendo-arm just seem blah. Although the Invisible Woman looks neat, I agree with the previous poster in that, as a whole, the special effects seem rushed.
Of course, I'll see it anyway. I guess it could have some potential. But I'm not too hopeful.
