Full Version: Licensing Question

Hasbro seems to have a few licenses for Ford, Mazda, Dodge, Jeep, Honda, Subaru, Chevy, so my question is, what other companies do these "Parent" companies cover in using other designs? For example, if Dodge is letting Hasbro use their designs, does that mean Chrysler will as well, since they are technically the same company od Dodge-Chrysler? Thanks in advance.

*Edit* Also what do you think about Hasbro maybe acquiring licenses from companies like Freightliner, Peterbilt or other truck manufacturers, so that maybe they can make Motor Master, etc? Think Alternators can move into other territories such as aircraft manufacturers, like Boeing, Douglas, Lockheed, etc? This way, they won't get turned down with the whole "war toy" excuse like Volkswagen and Porsche gave them. With that, they can start making some Decepticons we all know in a bit more familiar form. Suggestions?

and dont forget daimler chrysler lol. i'd like to see some mercedez get all up in the mix with the binaltech/alt line. we have xbrawn as an unlicensed ml320/430 toy.. they licensced sideburn from RID in the TFU line... it would be really cool to see other branches of GM get all up in the mix... but even though they are "one company" its still primarily up to that division of the company to give up the licencing to use their vehicles in toys...

thats why we haven't seen brands like: acura, volvo, saab, mercury, lincoln, toyota rollys royce, bmw, austin martin, nissan (takes deep breath) pegot, alfaromeo, citroen, opel, porsche, vw, audi, suzuki, hyundai... and so on. the alternator/binaltech line is fairly new so anything is possible lol.

but the biggest factor (mentioned in older threads) is that companies like vw/audi/porsche dont wanna "participate" in stuff that has anything to do with war... just sit tight and keep buying alts/binaltech to keep this series of toys alive and we'll keep getting good stuff thumbsup1.gif

edit: larger alternators and airplanes are already rumored to be under development

I would like Hasbro/Takara make a TF out of a Nissan Skyline. Skylines are only sold in japan, but has gain a cult following in the states thanks to the Gran Turismo series and The fast and the furious movies. actually there are about 60 something Skyline owners in the states before the movies came out.
would also like them to make a Tf out of a NSX/RSX
actually i would love it if both companies could use the japanese parent names of the high priced car companies that we have here in the states Lexus = Toyota, Infinity= Nissan, Acura=Honda

they also had that acura rsx thread where it had police stickers on it rumored to be a prowl.... but those are just rumored. (too lazy to find the post haha) and ahh yes the mysterious mitsu... i have a feeling that if they made a DSM tf it would probably be the lancer evo n look too much like smokesscreen's with a similar transformation. (not that the evo isn't a bad car but i'd like to see the montero/pajero fto and gto as tf's also haha) i would also like to see more wrc cars as tf's

I say screw the licences. They should focus on cars that have just ended production or have been in the public domain for about 5 years as these are fair game for toys/games. That way we can get alts of all those moronic companies who wont endorse these evil and corrupting `war toys`. Of course HasTak will most likely lose any goodwill in the car manufacturing world and then be unable to get current licences....icon_wink.gif

I could be wrong but I read that there are only 3 R34 Skylines in here. R34 is the newest one.

Also, I think the liscensing runs out in 20 years or I have read because it is now legal to sell fake supermario bros. game. I don't know if this applies to cars too.

On the subject of alternators/binaltechs branching into other vehicles, I don't think it would be fun to play with a Boeing 747, let alone the massive scale it would have to be. Plus alot of ppl are Starscreaming of paying too much for a $20 alternator, imagine how much a jumbo jet would be. I think they should just stick to cars and maybe trucks for alternator Prime and Magnus.

If this is true can't hasbro make bumblebee into the old Beetle? Speaking of Bumblebee I just saw a Teen Titans episode that had a female character named Bumblebee, so does Time Warner-D.C. Comics own the name Bumblebee?

A skyline would have to be a decepticon, that front end is MEAN!

Who'd like to see concept cars? I think that would be cool. How many times have you been watching a car show, or at an exhibition and just been wowed by an amazing concept car? Not a Takara/Hasbro conecpt but a proper ford/dodge/mazda created concept.

n the subject of licensing, Isnt Mazda owned by ford? thanks to a odd japanese law i tihnk if a comapny owns more than 30% of the stock then they have the controlling intrest, Im fairly sure that Ford hold 33% that Mazda stock. Perhaps guys in the Mazda P.R. Dept. happened to mention it to the bosses across the pond on, and now we have mustang binaltechs?

Jeep and Dodge both under Dailmer/Chrysler definate hope for the other brands.

the inifinity g35 coupe is the US version of the skyilne (the g35 sedan is the named a skyline in japan... visit nissan.co.jp) the gt-r model of the g35 coupe will be powered by a totally new vq35dett engine (yes thats 3.5 litre v6 twin turbo) and have the atessa AWD and could make around 430 hp. the BNR34 skyline gt r34, r33, and r32 is all available from motorex (motorex.net) or skylinegtr.com which is a company based in LA which takes care of all the importing and paperwork. (they legalized the car for street use by crash testing the car and what not.. just visit the site and the'll tell u all u need to know. (u can also get the skyline 25gts powered by the neo 6 2.5 litre engine which is rwd.

a nissan tf... i'd have to go with the fairlady z33 (350z) and the titan king cab/05 frontier or 05 xterra would be cool for tf's. not that the skyline isn't a bad choice for a car but its discontinued with the m.spec Nur gt-r as the final run for the bnr34 chasis and the r35 will be soon to come... i like to see newer cars. *dissapointed but ok with tracks being a z06 and not the 05 release of the corvette*

If VW don't allow them to use the New Beetle design, why should they be willing to grant them permission for the old one?

Depends on whether there's a toy of Karen Beecher's costumed identity.
