I was just wondering if anybody else has had problems with rented DVDs. I might rent one a month max. The few I have rented recently have been covered with scratches and will not play. I wonder if Blockbuster (or any rental place) has a plan for removing scratches and cleaning discs between rentals. Does anybody know or care?

well i buy used dvd's from them and they have no problem replacing them (not refunding...never had to refund a movie sofar so i dunno how thats going to work out) BUT if its scratched for any reason they should take care of it for you.

Judging by past experience I would say that they don't do much to them unless someone tells them that the disc is bad.

But that's just based on me watching while they go throught the returns. The basic procedure I saw was :

1) Put them in a big pile
2) Scan each box
3) put box on shelf.

I never did see anyone inspect any. Of course, that may just be the Blockbusters I've seen. Others may be stricter.

I had trouble with them before.

I can only remember one time where a disk "skipped", but I was still able to watch the rest of the movie.

I need to go back there. I owed 13.61 in late fees. I made a money order and went to the store and then they told me they don't take money orders. I was like screw it. I think blockbuster eliminated late fees right. Cool I spent the money order on command ravage and cruellock.

I haven't had problems with Blockbuster--or at least with rentals from them. Hastings on the other hand? They treat their rentals like crap on a crap-cracker. They even had the nerve to tell one of my friends that having the DVD loose in the case (big old scratches and all) didn't affect the disc whatsoever, and that if the disc didn't play it was her player's fault.
