Captain Atom was one of the first non Batman or Superman comic characters that i really liked and it was down to the character.
What i liked about him was the fact that despite being potentially the most powerful being in the universe ( he's powered by the quantum field - a universe sized pool of power, that beats Supes solar source hands down ) he was so very human, flawed, but decent. I was gutted when i first heard the rumour that he was going to be the villian Monarch ( i was about 10 or 11 years old i think ) and pleased when DC changed it to Hawk ( i hated him ).
I hope Cap gets his own series in DC again, but i'll bet he gets pushed into the background again.

he's a background character in Battle for Bludhaven:
One year later, Captain Atom is revealed to be contained inside Blüdhaven and used to administer radiation treatments to metahumans. Apparently Void, able to finally let him go home, was unable to ensure his safety, and multiple damages on his radiation-shielding skin had left him comatose and unable to keep down his body radiations to safe levels, forcing the Atomic Knights to keep him constantly contained.

So, basically they killed all the good characters on Stormwatch to make way for the Hitler Youth Authority? Wow, no wonder I don't read Wildstorm anymore.

So he's basicly reduced to a power battery for some minor Meta group

Still could be worse i guess.

Thats pretty much how i see it, but i guess the writers wanted to show just how a supergroup could go off the rails, the old "power corrupts" comes to mind, caused in part by the fact they are "super" all the time ( i'm thinking of a conversation between Majestic and Superman now in a recent Majestic book i got ).

The Authority is basically the Justice League if they decided to take control of the world in order to keep the peace. In fact, the Justice League episode "A Better Way" featured evil version of the League called the Justice Lords. Bruce Timm said they're actually based more on the Authority than the Crime Syndicate (evil League from the comics).

That makes sense, and i'm glad they did that.
I always thought it ironic that the Authority became far worse than Henry Bendix had ever been when he ran Stormwatch and they just didn't/couldn't/wouldn't see it.

what is even more amusing is that the Elite was DC's take on the Authority

The who? i must have dozed off when the Elite were news. I'm assuming they were a bunch of new, z-grade heroes ( i could be comletely wrong of course

) .

the Elite was a group of "heroes" who acted pretty harshly in the Superman comics. Eventually, they became the Justice League Elite, featuring League members like Flash and Green Arrow as well.
This is off topic, but I loved the Infinite Crisis version of the Elite with Superman, Batman, Guy Gardner, Hawkman, Green Arrow, Manchester and Vera Black, and Coldcast
Apparently Midnighter is getting his own solo series. That guy creeped me out in Captain Atom, both him and Apollo.

I think Midnighter and Apollo now have bigger bodycount behind them than nearly any DC villian ( except Darkseid - we dont see him kill that many but i always get the feeling he kills a lot of his subjects )

Apollo and Midnighter just creeped me out with their dialogue and actions throughout Captain Atom. Like when Midnighter kicked Nikola or what when he kept threatening Grifter. No wonder the average person is afraid of those guys, I would be if they were real.

Midnighter's never been considered a reasonable man

. I did like the Authority in their earlier stories, now i cant stop taking shots at them.
So the Authority are still going to exist in this re-boot then?

yeah, everything's still gonna be around or is coming back. Morrison's pulling double duty on Authority and WildCATs.

Damn, i was hoping the Authority would disband, still as long as the other groups and heroes will reign them in once in a while i'll be happy. The Authority comics too often ignored the rest of the Wildstorm titles existance, in fact pretty much every world shaking event that occurred in the Authority convieniently seemed to ignore their existance, they might as well have been in a separate universe from the rest of Wildstorm ( i know it would be awkward to write all of Wildstorms heroes in but Majestic should have made at least one appearence when the Authority first started, if only to be told to get lost by Midnighter or something ).
Hopefully a few clashes with the Wildcats and the new Stormwatch will be on the cards if they are the same as they were.

Wildstorm PanelWildcats - Morrison explained that he and Jim Lee are trying to reinvigorate the team and book by adding a dose of pop art and punk, something which has Lee adapting his style to reflect a new, kinetic approach. “It’s set the day after tomorrow, and increased sunspot activity is changing people’s heads on Earth, Morrison said, adding that, in this near future, every household has a Spartan robot, which proves problematic, as Hadrian (the original Spartan) decides that he knows what is best for the Earth, and coldly implements his plan to make a better world.

That sounds like the plot from the "I. Robot" movie.

exactly what I was thinking. I love Spartan, seeing him in Majestic was awesome and I can't wait til he makes his triumphant return in Wildcats.

finally got my copy of WildCATS #1. Damn that was sweet, and best of all, Majestic is still around and has a badass new look. Good times.
