Just how did Prime and the others form Menasor? That's been bugging me since I was a little kid....and it is never really addressed...not even in facfiction. Just thinke, all this time they could have made an autobot combinder with Mirage, Prime, Sideswipe and...ummm the other guys...

... thought about this....
decided it has something to do with Hounds Holigram Projector, Wheeljacks wacky inventions, Iron Hides glue gun, Tracks blackness beam, and poor eyesight on the part of the Decepticons not having a medic on their side...

It was explained in the ep. Windcharger kept them together with his magnetic powers. I don't remember if Hound was also with them, but if so, he presumably matched the hologram accordingly.

... ya know, I can't help but feel like a rockstar or celeberty with my name being called out in the topic subheader... that is awesome, I am glad I inspire the bizarrest of questions to be brought to the table. But I'm just a guy at work on a slow day that works at a place with no one super cool to talk to...
There are some questions with Seasons 1 and 2 that I never attempt to answer because they are just too strange. The writers really took alot of liberties back then. I mean... Transformers wearing lab coats. W T F mate? They really had a good time and that's what made for such a good show that 20 years later is still classic and fun. The writers had little to no collaberation with eachother regarding fluent story, and never really thought twice about there plot devices and how they would effect future episodes.
Although my explanation is sorta a joke... if they really wanted to they could have made it work somehow. Think about it... I mean they had a mad scientist! What's to stop him from creating a device that emits short range transmissions that can obscure a Decepticons thoughts and perceptions for a limited time? With digital brain waves, scrambling them is possible right?

"Masquerade" -- one of the last episodes in pre-TF:TM G1.

I remember Windcharger sayin, "Were okay as long as my magnetic field holds", followed by Mirage sayin "And I can keep this phoney face".
WTF, was Menasors face supposed to be invisible?

All I remember is that back in 1986 the trailer for TF:TM was saying "Two years in the making!!" which would have put the initial start date in 1984...? (Of course that would have been the start of preproduction, not the actual start of animation.)
One curious thing to me was how the '85 Autobot cars / minibots were nowhere to be seen in TF:TM. Perceptor and Blaster were there, as were Ramjet, Dirge and Thrust. So what gives?

...is it one of the later episodes?
That is so strange... 'cause TFTM we all know was made around the same time as Season 2... so to think, one writer for the show turned in "mascarade" as his script for a half hours woth TF excitment... but some other writer put in a 90min. script for TFTM... they could have both potentially been in draft mode at the same time on the same big shots desk waiting for the go ahead.... wow!
Now imagine THAT writer got TFTM instead???? Ha!!!
the script would have been turned in, during season one time. they went right to work right after MTMTE and it took 2 years to animate it. Possible some revisions were made at the beginning of season 2 time, hence Blitzwing and Blaster, but no later season bots.

OK, my understanding was (and please, I'm getting old, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. correct me if I'm wrong) that the '85 characters that appeared in the movie were originally going to be in the '86 line, and that new molds were going to be made for the conehead seekers also... but following the tremendous success of s1 they needed new characters in a hurry for a full new line in '85 which wasn't planned (just a few new chars to pad toy sales while waiting for the movie). so they took a handful of the movie characters and threw them into the '85 season (Blaster, coneheads, et all). It was too far along in the process of the movie to do the opposite though, which is why none of the '85 line of bots appear in the movie (Omega Supreme, Combiners, Tracks, Skids, Hoist, Smokescreen)

If I remember correctly...The first draft of the TF:TM script was turned in after the completion of Heavy Metal Wars' storyboards. Heavy Metal War was the last episode of the First Season in continuity order.
Also Originally the Triple-Changers were designed to be in the '86 year line-up, not '85. But I can't remember how that worked itself out. Someone got into a hurry and rushed them out I do believe.
Blaster, Perceptor, and the Conehead-Seekers were design well in advanced to the Second Season if I recall. Designed earlier than many of the others. This was probably a good reason for them in the movie.

Now back to the question...
Windcharger held them together with his magnetic beams and The Autobots were using a holographic device that Hound, Wheeljack, and Ratchet designed. This device was a type of Holographic and Optic-Shifter and coupled this with the holographic paint they made for them. It's all in the episode.

The Decepticons are just like people playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the INTERNET. No body wants to be a medic! Medics only get a pistol! I want a panzerschrek!

I heard about the first draft script detail from Floro Dery when he did a Q&A thing sometime around BotCon 96'...I'll see if I can find it...
The toyline stuff I had heard a long time ago from various sites and people. I've heard it so many times from a wide variety of people and sites, I just take it as a cool little detail of things.
