Deffinitely. Any fan of susupense, action, thriller will love this show. I missed the first season because at this point with all the reality tv garbage I had given up on tv altogether. 24 came out and throughout it's run everyone was I knew was raving about it but I was like, whatever. This attitude stayed with me as season 2 was finishing and by this time the dvd set was released and I had heard so much at this point I figured I needed to see what the big deal was, and bought it on that justification alone. 24's gimmic is it take place in a real time 24 hour period, each minute counts, and each episode continues precisely where the previous left off. In the end you're pretty much left with what feel like a really long but cool feeling movie. The only downside is if you miss an episode or two in the beginning or elsewhere you're pretty much screwed in terms of knowing what's going on. I think season 1 has been by far the most effective and is a must see. Season 2 is good but some of the side plots, and filler are out of place. I just finished with season 3 om dvd in time for sason 4 and it deffinitely exceeds 2 but some of the plotting and logic displayed gives a wonky feel. To bad yo missed the boat on season 4 because thus far it rocks. On the upside you have plenty of time to catch up on the previeous three in time for the dvd release if season 4. thumbsup1.gif

Thank Freaking God!

I'm not the only one who loves this show!

Primusq001 you are so right, Jack Bauer Is the best action hero to hit TV and Film since I don't know when.

I was going to start a 24 thread for any trans fans who actually watch and love the show. But Primusq001, you did it you beat me and hey I'm glad that some other trans fan love this show besides me.

I'll tell you all one thing, in my house the world stops for "24"; phones are off the hook, anybody that knows me knows that I don't exist between 9pm - 10pm on what used to be Tuesday nights and now moved to Mondays.

Now the only thing about 24 that can be a real down side is the part about missing a season, an episode so on. If you are just getting into it I highly recomend renting the first 3 seasons to catch up.

However one nice thing about this new season, season 4 is that it starts over from scratch with a new job and a new life for the shows central character Jack Bauer.

In the first three seasons one would be hard pressed to keep up becuase in order to understand the complex relationships with the supporting characters you had to have known what happened in the privious seasons.

Now Jack starts anew with being an assistant and security agent (a sort of glorified body guard and messenger) for the secretay of defence. Jack also finds new love in his bosses daughter.

The main supporting characters come from a government agency called CTU (counter terrorist Unit). In the past seasons Jack worked for CTU as the lead field agent. He had developed many friendships and bonds of trust with most of the CTU members mostly because he always stuck to his word and never played politics.

Now CTU has new workers new faces and new problems. Jack has been reintroduced into CTU because his boss has been taken hostage by terrorists.

We learned that Jack was fired by the new director of CTU Driscal for a privious drug habit (an episode 3 thing).

Anyhow the new director Driscal has shown to be very incompitant at her job as well as her support staff. Jack waists no time to use CTU's resources while disregarding Driscal's existance in order to rescue his boss and ultimatly save America from acts of domestic terrorism.

Now one thing that new veiwers need to understand is what makes Jack so special.

Jack used to work so many long term undercover jobs ranging from being a terrorist, a drug runner (hince the drug problem I mentioned earlier), a thug, skin head you name it he's been it. The biggest part is Jack has more time in undercover than any agent in the field. So all in all Jack knows terrorists.

Now this was Jacks past....and because of it CTU has found him to be extremly valuable as a source to understand terrorist. In most cases Jack has met or known the terrorists in question.

Jack has had loses. Yep this man watched his wife get murdered by a CTU agent who turned out to be a traitor. This same traitor almost killed his daughter.

Jack is ruthless. Ruthless with a capital "R". In the privious seasons Jack has had the political protection from a senator he protected who later became the President. Jack and the President's freindship was extremly strong. Jack had unlimited access to the President at any given notice.
It is because of this Jack has gotten away with so much crap....but it saved the country from doom. But now in season 4 that President has steped down and Jack will be pretty much on his own.

Now I'll get back to the ruthless part. Lets see from taking the severd head of a child molester to a gang to get back in with them, to killing a terrorists family on closed circut tv to get the terroist to talk (later it was revealed that is was just special effects the family never died), to threaten to expose a terrorists daughter to biological contamination to get get the terrorist to talk, to...........ah man it is too much to list but I think you get the Idea.

Jacks latest stunt was holding up a quiky mart/gas station to stall a terrorist (who was buying something) until a satilite could be set up to track the terrorist on foot.

Wow thats alot. I hope some new fans can gain something from this long post.

Any how I hope this thread gets filled every week.
skullfire
Oh yeah, I need to start the discussion of the last episodes.

My take on it all;

First off I can not wait till Driscal is removed from her positon. I watched this lady for 4 hours and I already hate her.

The black guy (I forgot his name) is the only CTU agent that seems to have any compassion. That new chick trying to sleep her way to the top is going to mess things up.....I wonder if she's a mole......hell I think Driscals a mole.

Jacks latest stunt is unreal Holding up a gas station to get his terrorist. That was great.

There's my wrap on the new episodes.

Anybody else?

Jacks never been good with bureaucracy.

In the past seasons Jack has had it pretty easy.....

The president was like his best freind and had total trust and dependancy in Jack.

CTU was very aware about how valuable Jack's unusually long history being undercover was.

Jack made good friends with those in CTU.

CTU made him field leader.

And bureaucraticly speaking Jack had higher ups watching his butt (the president) shielding him from from every form of red tape imaginable.

In this season things have changed.........

His only friend in CTU is Cloey.

The director wants Jack in prison.

Everybody in CTU has been trained to see Jack as reckloose (except maybe the black guy who points out to Driscal that if it wasn't for Jack they wouldn't have found the terrorist guy.

And the new president most likly sees Jack as on of the old presidents examples of recklessness.

This will be a tough season for Jack......But it's going to be a good one for us.

BTW thank god they moved it Mondays, I got sick and tired last season of American Idol having another damn 2 hour special pushing the next "24" episode back another week. I started hating A I (even though it was not their fault it was FOX's).

I loved 24, but I only saw the first two seasons. My only problem is some of the stuff are a little too absurd. In the first season, Kim gets kidnapped THRICE in a day. In the second season, Kim's story is a little forced since her zany adventures have little to do with the terrorist threat.

Still, once I started with the first episode, I just couldn't stop watching. Excellent series, and I agree that Jack is cool, one of the best anti-heroes on TV. thumbsup1.gif
JustLOKIPLVY
agree.gif Down with American Idol, and I ca't believe the stupidity of us starting up Canadian Idol. What a insurmountable plethora of decent programming.
Big words aside 24 is like one of the only things I bother watching. Great show, and it's intenese, and for the most part keeps you guessing. Season 4 looks as it may be best yet. Four hours in, and already Jack has shredded all bureaucracy to achieve his goal. This guy is forever unpredictable because you never know how he'll handle the next situation or complication that arises from doing his civil duty. In season three a friend was like "what are you doing Jack?" as he started that whole prison riot. I found myself saying the same thing when he held up the gas station. The measures he takes are extreme to say the least. Season 2 he kills the guy awaiting protection and demands a hacksaw, in season 4 he shoots the guy through the leg. Forget protocal, Jack get's results.
With most of the supporting characters from the preveious sesons either dead or facing legal ramifications Jack is on his own as he again outside CTU authority races to save a powerful Senatator abducted by terrorists. Though the terrorists are the enemy, Jack's real adversity is Driscal. CTU's new acting director, Four hours in and she's already worse then both George Mason, and Ryan Chappel combined. As if that were humanly possible. Both died, when I was just beginning to find them likable. Anyway she needs to be removed asap because this woman is not with it. She ignores important data, argues and defies Jack's logic every step of the way when he's the only one who knows what he's doing, and she leaves he scizophenic daughter at home without supervision. A lot's going to have to happen to this character in the next 20 hours for me to feel any sympathy towards her. The only one besides Jack who has any sense of logic is Chloe Obrian returning from the third season. Obnoxious yes but she's even become likable.
Though I've only seen the first four eps I have noticed a following trend in the way 24 is presented. In the first 12 hours the first plot will wrap up and main vilains will all be dead to make way for continuing larger threat and a whole new group of villains for Jack to contend with.
Well that's about it for me though I am in deep anticipation of where they go with this next week monday. wave.gif

agree.gif Kim is basically filler in season 2 as was the presidential scandal in season 3. I have high hopes that now that these supporting characters are removed the show can focus more on telling one story rather then all these silly subplots. thumbsup1.gif

Unlike Ryan and George I think we will learn that Driscal is corrupt in some fashion or other. The daughter is being used to show the veiwers how Driscal feels that everything in life just gets in the way.

George and Ryan may have had issues with Jack but if it is one thing that they had in commen with Jack is following CTU protocal to the letter (yep Jack may not be for red tape but he has been a poster boy for ethics and protocal). In less than 4 hours Driscal has successfully broken CTU protocal all over the place. Her latest infringment is using CTU LAPD relations designed for anti-terrorism for personal use. Ryan nor George would have never done this, especially Ryan!

I think that what will happen is Jack may find himself at the end of this "24" he'll be asked to replace Driscal as the director of CTU on a permanent bases. In since Driscal is a catalist for Jack to become the director of CTU.

As far as subplots we got more soap opera subplots with some new CTU agent who is an opportunist (reminecent of the past presidents ex-wife).

Driscals kid problems are just to there to make her make BIG career mistakes.

The Aribic kid will go against his parents.......to create more problems for their distructive goals (BTW these characters are great and chilling, especialy the mom).

The computer hacker may be a Chloe replacement? Will Chloe get killed?

I also predict a mole in the agency.

Jack definitely had his issues with both George and Ryan, and even Tony in the first season but eventially by season 2 everybody was mostly seeing eye to eye. As far as Ryan, 4 hours in and I already miss him as character. Though Ryan was strict and by the book, and forever antagonized whatever it was Jack was either trying to do or prevent I found him one of the most amusingt characters on the show. He'd always be brought in at last minute when things were at there absolute worst and would be completely clueless at to what was really going on. It was also funny to see Jack prove him wrong on so many occasions and then walk off at the end of the season looking as if he'd been PWN3D.
George whent out in a blaze of glory which was alright, but the way Ryan went out was a complete shock. Before Jack shot him, I was hoping for some reversable plot twist that wouldn't have him killed but that never happened. I did however cheer when Shery Palmer died. I just wish that would've happened in the first /second season. Nena finally bit it too the third time around. She was a great character, and played off great with Jack. From the first betrayl/confrontation at the end of season one to when he finally shot her dead in season 3 the contrast between good/evil was perfectly balanced. Sorry to see her go as well but I can't imagine them going much further with her character.
So far with Season 4, Jack's the main focus and I haven't minded the family of terrorists subplot, but the stupid going ons between the CTU cast is beginning to get ridiculous and the inside mole is getting tiresome. Wasn't there a new opportunist CTU agent in season 2 who tried to get Tony fired, or was that season 1, can't remember. The other thing I don't understand is why they're torturing the Senators son, what do they hope to learn from this kid. Also the hacker may be back, and will probably assist the CTU crew in some way or other or will the terrorists learn he wasn't killed and try again to remove him. Chloe will probably die, but I'm hoping against it. The Arabic kid will definitely run out and complicate matters, would've done so already if his mother hadn't poisoned the girl. It was predictable but chilling none the less. That is one evil woman, and I'm sure things won't turn out for her and husband either.
My only question now is, if they either find or kill the Senator in the fifth hour what else to these terrorits have planned for day 4?
skullfire
Tourturing the senetors son is a Driscal idea and again is more to the character development of how cruel and ignorant she can be.

Notice that the same attitude she had with her kid is the same as when she wanted to inject the senetors son to get more info. Lets just medicate the whole thing. Yet she never gets results.

Driscal likes prossess but not the end and this is her big weakness.

Driscal in inharently evil.

As far as what the next plot will be after the rescue of the senetor, I think the answer to that is in two places. The first spot is in the brief case. The second I think has to do with this new technology that Driscal mentioned to the black guy (what is his name?) and the new girl (Palmer clone) knows too much about.

I think this season will have a bigger twist; Jack vs the newly corrupt CTU.

I feel that all this plot changing will have jack and us go back to CTU.
