I just wanted to know if anybody knew anything about the Microman toys and their origins in relation to TF. I read on a site, can't remember what one, that there were toys called "Acro Years", that piqued my interest given that it's a track title off an autechre album, I doubt it's what ae were referencing, but just curious is all...

oh yeah, first post, hi everyone!
Father Time
Go to http://www.microforever.com It has all the info you need.

Short summary: Micromen where released in the 70s in Japan by Takara, the creator. The Acroyear you heared mention were the Bad Guys from Micromen, where the Micromen are good guys.

At a certain point in time, Takara decided to have the Micromen able to transform. The final result of that decision became toys like cassette-decks, tapes, guns, and so who where able to transform into robots.

Those toys, and some Diaclone-toys, where released in the States under the banner "Transformers".

So, basically, Micromen are the ancestors of Transformers.

THe Japanese version of Kicker happens to be a Micromen, BTW.
akum6n
This might be a gross oversimplification, but the G1 TFs that transform into items that are the same size as their real-life equivalents (e.g., tape decks, microscopes, guns) were old Microman figures.  The TFs that transform into scale models of real objects (e.g., cars, dinosaurs, etc.) were Diaclones.  A couple, Shockwave and Galvatron, were from other lines completely.

E-Hobby has started to make Microman-version reissues of some G1 figures, if you're interested in them.  Unfortunately, the e-Hobby repaints are fairly expensive to begin with and appreciate quickly once released.

Yeah.  Transformers.  Galvatron wasn't one of the figures imported from another line, like most of the post-movie TFs (excluding Ultra Magnus).

Micromen Evolved from Henshen Cyborg, a Meched out Version of the 12 inch G.I.Joes. The Smaller G.I.Joes were baised onf the Microman frame.

GIjoes/Microman/Diaclones/Transformers

Interesting. Does anybody know if Microman was truly inspired by the GIjoes or if Microman's simularitys were purely coincedental. If it were inspired that would mean the trend would've started here, carried over into Japan and circled back again when Diaclones came into being as Transformers.

What about Roboforce was that Takara as well?

As I recall, GI Joe was imported to japan around the late 60's. Which prompted Takara to put out Henshin Joe (I think that was his name...?) then they downsized it um,  as I recall,  before the Real American Hero line (early-mid 70's? It was a little before MIcronauts hit in the USA) when Takara made MIcroman... which alongside Diaclone, then led to spawn Transformers.

So GI Joe is TF's Grandpappy? slytf.gif tounge1.gif
Nevermore
1. Hasbro starts "G.I. Joe".
2. Takara imports G.I. Joe as "Combat Joe".
3. Takara uses Combat Joe as the base for "Henshin Cyborg".
4. Takara shrinks down Henshin Cyborg and uses it as the base for "Microman".
5. Takara ends Microman and replaces it with "New Microman".
6. Takara shrinks down the figures even more and starts "Diaclone".
7. Takara starts sub-lines for Diaclone, "Car Robo", "Jet Robo" and "Dinosaur Robo".
8. Takara starts a sub-line for New Microman, "MicroChange".
9. Takara tries to sell Diaclone in the US as "Diakron".
10. Hasbro imports Diaclone and MicroChange and starts "Transformers".
akum6n
That's really interesting.  I had no idea that GI Joe led to Microman.  So when GI Joe and the Transformers had those crossovers in the TV show (and comics), it was like some kind of freaky 80s-toy circle coming to completion.

the same way the costume worked. They're supposed to be styled the same way the actual suits were. Think of it as Microman trying to make their own Godzilla movie. I wish I had my own Godzilla costume, that'd be awesome.

They're 3.5 inch scale.  Just a tad taller than GIJoes.

What is this? I have yet to hear anything about it, and even after googling it, all that appears are the HLJ-listings. Is anoyone able to shed some light on this?

well got my 1st micomen today heres a little review

magneForce Phobos: this guy is just gr8 with the ball sections it makes him even more posable then other micromen. the colours are just WOW they work so well and IMO he reminds me of g1 soundwave(thats a gr8 thing). comes with spare hands extra parts to use when making the odessy. the only bad point would be his wepons thier a little WTF also their only detailed on 1 side so they look a little cheap, the wepons also form the front wheels of the odessy so their not with out funtion but they cant make up for their WTF factor. 8/10

acroyear X-2 Acroelsa: in one word Girly but thats why i got her thier is simply no other microlady like her. The toy is very posable like all micromen but feels fradgle maybe cuz its all plastic. the extra parts are neat and again girly to the extreem not a bad thing so much as it is different from others in the range. now the bad point the cat Acropanther its more or a storige solution then a sidekick gr8 for putting the unused parts on but as a cat its a let down the legs only move in 2 places at the top whare it joins to the body and at the ankle the head is ok the mask is very loose tho. 7/10

I'm glad I found this topic, I have one guy that comes with a diving orb(can't remember his name) and Acro Elsa, that I picked up for a cosplay project that I didn't start in time. I'm still planning on doing the Acro Elsa project though.

I've also been curious about the magnetic Microman figures, but I've been wondering, is it safe to have them in a room with a TV/VCR/Video Game system and/or computer?

Anyways, seeing the anime character Microman, and Ga'Mede, really makes me wish Takara would include spare painted heads in addition to the chromed ones for the regular Microman figures. I also wish they'd do more figures for the other Brave/Transformers characters(Guess GGG and Kicker is s start, huh?)

Okay. I'll put 'em on the fridge. ^_^

Anyways, I like the crabby guy and the blue lady..but what's her critter supposed to be? a dragonfly perhaps?

And what's the, for lack of better color description, chocolate and gold guy supposed to have with him?

Edit:Nevermind. stopped staring at the picture for a moment to read the article. ^_^;;

i'd like to get the MM alien queen but i don't know how stern it is. is it strong enough to actually play with?
X-Bob58
She should be fine if she spends the most of her life on a shelf, but if you plan on taking her and a Predature and smashing them together while yelling "DIE DIE" she'll break

^that pritty much goes for every MM toy

just wondering why havent hasbro used the mold to inprove the G.I.joe stuff

if you mean by 'play' like any average child does, then no, it is not strong enough

if you are an adult toy collector that knows how to handle his goods and likes to pose his toys, then yes, buy it

I have Alien Warrior (foot joint broke and misses half of 'backpipes', first case of bad takara quality) and Queen (giant crown is very loose, I glued it, other than that no problems)

although I'm thinking of getting the 3 others as well, as the crad and squid look nice, and with the car you can form that giant mecha

Because Hasbro does not have the license or rights to the Takara Microman Series...
Blitz
i sorta knew that but why dont they pay takara to use thier figures as a base or at lease take some ideas from them such as the feet and knees etc they can keep the idea of a elastic band in the body.
