Scratch built, no. However, I've seen folks take joints from gundams to use. Depending on what size you need and all.

The best solution I've come up with is to buy a tf, or other toy with about the right sized joints you need, hack it up into little pieces and use that.
Otherwise, thou art screwed.

wow, just wow
i have had an experience with my beats wars
when i opened TM Cheetor, his right shoulder and elbow ball joints were SUPER loose, almost just falling off the ball, i used a thin coat of nail polish, yellow nail polish, to match the ball colour. it was super stiff at first, but then after some movement it turned out great
im telling you what worked for me, it may not work for you, so if u try to do it and F*** it up, sorry, i cant help ya there

Though I Know nothing of ScratchBuilding Ball Joints, I do know where to find some...
-Lego BIONICLE parts are Quite Strong (But also pretty Large)
-XEVOZ are Durable and come in Small - Medium size
-Keep an open mind when Searching for Resources. Many toys use Ball Joints, From
Cheap KO's to Power-Rangers, etc.
Keep an eye out for Cheap KnockOff & Clearance toys (BigLots/DollarStore).
TARGET is often a great source for Clearance...(I picked up many XEVOZ Sets there)
ToysRus has begun to Clearance XEVOZ Also.

Thanks for the info guys. I asked **primus** post his question because I felt I couldn't provide him with a suitable one. He wants to scratch build his own ball-joints.

An idea that I recently had was using some chinese cheap umbrellas, you have to look for those with ball typed tips at the ends of the fine things that make them spread.
