I was pointed in this direction as i'm looking for toy shops in hong kong that i can buy generation 1 (original and reissues) or binaltech TFs from. it was pointed out that Remy would be the one to ask. so, to cut a rambling long post short, any suggestions?

I think this TF hunting route may suit you.

Take the MTR to the Yau Ma Tei station and get out from the A2 exit. You'll at spot (0) of the map. There are 2 shopping mall you must go: (1) CTMA Centre, and (2) In's Point.
There are 2 stores selling vintage toys at B2/F of CTMA Centre. You can find lots of original G1 toys there. On the same floor, you can find a shop selling TF prototypes...
From B2/F to 2/F, 80% of the shops are toy stores. New release TF like BinalTech, TF Collections can be found easily.
There are fewer toy stores at In's Point, but one selling vintage is worth going.
Remember don't visit the shops too early. They open after 4pm on weekdays.
Happy TF hunting!

I was in HK earlier this year.
I found very few 'big' TF stores but i was only there for 3 days and its one mad place!
Try the night markets for KO transformers - the one that sell on ebay for £10-15 can be haggled down to about HK$10 or less!
(i got a mini - about 2/3 scale defensor there for $12)
+ the night markets are a real experience - they open at about 5-6pm and are on the mainland - look in guide books for info.
Try the department store - most have toy sections that sell the reissue TFs and wst's
erm...
Mass transit system is wicked - clean efficient and very easy to use.
bus drivers dont/cant give change
I loved it!

thank you so much guys - that is exactly the sort of info i needed.
fatguy - maps as well! very impressed. cheers.
wing zero - thanks for trying anyway.
wraithchild666 - i've been a couple of times before, so i know the area reasonably well, but i haven't been since i've been collection. and the night market suggestion is a brilliant idea, i can't believe i hadn't considered it.
OK, how are you lot on your Manhattan and Tokyo stores?

Try Causeway Bay. One of the buildings at the back of a mall with a TRU has a lot of TFs in different varieties. Hong Kong is the Mecca of TFs, I would love to come back. The hotel my family lived in was just across the street, so I visited that place everyday.
I also found a building in Mong Kok which has "Toymart" written on the wall (not sure if it is the name of the building or a major shop in it) near the end of the street they use for the night market. Imagine this: Four floors and two basement floors which is composed 80% toy shops, and the rest are some gift shops and some clothing stores. The basement floors have some shops which sell a lot of vintage TFs, while the rest sell TFs of all varieties. I'm kicking myself for not remembering the street, since navigating in HK is pretty easy and using the subway is a cinch. My week in HK during December was my first time, but I'm not afraid to use public transportation by myself, all you need is a good map and a sense of direction.
I won't rely on Toys R' Us in HK. They don't stock the latest TFs as soon as they come out. When I went there last Christmas, they had hordes of Armada Galvatrons, Smokescreens, Unicrons and Tidal Waves, along with some slightly old Takara and Hasbro reissues, but none of them caught my eye. They only had TF Collection #8 and 9 while the smaller shops where already stocking on Astrotrain and MP Prime. Check the smaller toy/collectible shops for the newest toys. You could also get some good rare gems. I saw TWO Cryoteks and hate myself for not buying one.

There is a street (side street off hennessy road) very near wan chai MTR station that has 3 toy stores in it ,Cant remember the name of the street. There are usually market stalls in the middle of the street & the toy stores are behind them all grouped together (on street level).
Definatly worth checking these places out got some real bargins last year.
You will need a bit of time in these places as there is no order to the stock, its all jumbled together.

First went for 10 days in october 2004 & had binaltech frenzy.
Returned last october for 4 days & spent a fourtune (got 14 T.F.S),then moved on to singapore & got every cybertron figure i was missing (12 figures).
I should point out that the stores i mentioned mainly sell new stuff (well within last 2 years or so). There is also a small toy store in the airport that sells T.Fs (its before you go through security into departures) ideal for spending youre last few $.
Oh and keep an eye out for nemisis prime (alt) they were everywhere when i was there Tru had literaly about a hundred.
Have a great time in H.K. it`s a truly amazing place.
