The guys at Super7 had a good time and said we could do it again. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the event and if makes sense to do it again.

Would more notice and doing it on Sunday help those of you who could not make it this time?
Fortress_Maximus
I am all for it and speaking for myself, yes, having it on Sunday would be awesome. However, I still think regarding increasing the attendance aspect it will take time. More advertising will help, absolutely and I think maybe flyers posted and left in strategic stores in Jtown would be prudent. Ie. Mikado, JVideo, Kinokunika, People Video (if it's still there etc).

IMO we should also try to eventually have one of our Swaps during the same time as the next Third Annual JapanTown Anime Faire, coming up in 2005. According to their site it will be on September 3-5, 2005 (Labor Day Weekend). Here is the site: http://www.jtaf.com/index2.html

Just my two cents. thumbsup1.gif Just keep us posted.

Why would you want to compete with the anime fair?

To answer your question Wheel-Jack, I really think that we should do it again.
Saturday or Sunday both work. But there's no way to please everybody.
Fortress_Maximus
Actually, we would not be competing with the anime fair. We would be DIRECTLY benefiting from the increase amount of people who are specifically visiting Jtown, b/c they are attending the con. We would also benefit from the regular and relatively small amount of people from TFans and other boards, who would already be coming. But as I mentioned in another thread it will take time to promote and reach out to TFans; not every TFan is even aware of the TFan board existence, let alone Super7 and even few are aware of our swap meets.

However, if we can continue to promote our event, the swap meet by leaving flyers at Kinoyunika, Mikado, and most importantly JVideo, we will slowly by surely increase public awareness of our event. Also, if you are familiar with Jtown in San Francisco, typically whenever there is a major festival and/or community event, the Jtown merchants as a whole, benefit from the increase in tourism and patrons.

We can use the anime festival and make it work for us for a future swap meet, if we held it during that weekend. IMO we should have it coincide with theirs b/c many anime fans are also mecha fans (i.e. Gundam) and are specifically returning TFans! We can also view this as an opportunity to promote and reach out to new and younger TFans too. thumbsup1.gif Also bear in mind there are no anime cons or festivals in San Francisco, the nearest one held annually is Fanime, which is not even held in San Francisco. As such, for anime fans new and old, this event in San Francisco’s Jtown, holds many opportunities and will undoubtedly draw a HUGE crowd. The last time this event occurred there were a few thousand, estimate around two thousand people attended. Even if we do not hold the Swap for all three days (which is the typical amount of days for anime cons), we will still benefit and I for one will not be surprised if the Super7 will be involved and preparing the con. It would be prudent for us to plan in advance to participate and advertise online and via word of mouth about the swap meet.

Lastly, I think we should have at least one more before the anime con in September 2005, perhaps in January or February? I don’t think we should have one in December b/c of Christmas and how people are traveling and the same applies to Thanksgiving. Thoughts?
BaCon
I think during Anime Con is a great idea for all the points you make FM. It might be harder to do and I cant assure you we can use the store that day. They will probably be swamped with shoppers and not as keen on the idea. I'll bring it with them up for sure tho.

The store is game for us whenever we want to do it again providing they dont have another event going on already on that date. Even if it was a bi-monthly thing, I think. That's probably more than I am into doing tho.

So what are we talking about for the next one? What about Halloween? December is not a horrible time. People are home and out of school. January is fine too. The sooner we choose a date the sooner we can get the word out. If we do this, would some people be into helping distribute fliers around their area?

WJ
Fortress_Maximus
I can help distribute in the downtown and possibly a few other areas. We just need to confirm a tentative date.
Blindmouse
If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.
Fortress_Maximus
Any updates WJ?

Also, please reply to my pms I have not heard from you about completing out TRADE and I'm getting concerned. Thanks! icon_sad.gif

Believe it or not, but people keep asking the Super7 store when there is going to be another TF Swap Meet. I want to set a date for before the end of this year. What date works best for everyone? How does Sunday December 5th or 12th look for all of you?

Let's nail down a date and start the promo to make this one bigger and better.

WJack
marv
There is a toy show in san jose on Dec 4th. So the 12th might be better.

Though i am completely ticked off at the people who are running it. Rudest store owners i have ever meet in my life.
THE STIG
how about a sat/sun event or would that be pushing it? *or how many of u guys would already be tired of going back n forth to japantown..??*
Khan
I think I could do a December 12th event...
Fortress_Maximus
I vote for 12/12 so it'll give us more time. Once the ad is made, will gladly help to promote it to everyone I meet. thumbsup1.gif
Fortress_Maximus
Any news WJack? Kindly update. Thanks! thumbsup1.gif
BaCon
Bad news... Super7 is now saying they are worried the store will be too crowded with Xmas shoppert to hold the event on the 12th. Unless we can do it some place else, its looking like January is the next soonest time.

What do you all think? Is it worth while trying to do it someplace else or should we just wait?
Blindmouse
I say hold off till January.

December is a horrible month for money.
Fortress_Maximus
If S7 says no go then January is fine with me; we just need time to promote.
Khan
January works for me as well. thumbsup1.gif

Any news on this front?

FortMax,
FYI. There's Wonder Con at the Moscone Center this coming Feburary on President's Day weekend. Usually it comes around in April around the time of easter break but for some reason it was rescheduled earlier. You can check out the info here through Comic Con's website.
THE STIG
what a way to kickoff another tf meet with GF TOYS!?! woo hoo! c'mon guys who's interested in meeting up again??? i cant wait!
BaCon
Well if we are gonna do one this month, we are way late on the promotion. thumbsup1.gif

Honestly, I am waaaaay slammed with everything right now. I dont have time to organize another meet up just now. Anyone else want to take this one on? I can help you out a little bit.

I do like the idea of doing something at Wonderfest. In fact, as soon as it warms up we can probably meet at the Metreon park anytime we like. There is lots of space and it is close to the Bart. I wonder if Things From Another World (TFAW) would be into sponsoring something? I will check next time I am over there.
Khan
I can't really do anything until March at the earliest, myself.
BaCon
March! We better start planning then!!!! We are just weeks away.

Who wants to help organize? Let's make this one a real blow-out!

WJ
THE STIG
ahh.. end of march is my midterms and spring break!!! ahhh!!!! i wish i could help!!! grrrr.... how about april?? lol

Thanks but I knew about WC, they typically don't have anything good like cels or rare Tak or Yamato toys. IMO overpriced even for a day pass.
X9 Spectre
I'd definately be interested in going to one of these things soon. thumbsup1.gif
BaCon
We should to PLAN one - set a date far enough in the future that we can promote it some and get the word out.

How about May?
marv
May 21, Going once, Going twice..... icon_wink.gif
Blindmouse
No no no no please!

May is the worst possible month for me.

Anything else is fine.

Just not the end of may.

(Three family birthdays in a row and then I have to fly to Massachusetts. I'll have no money left.)
Elita-One
I don't think I have anything to swap.
Blindmouse
You don't need to swap stuff...

You could just hangout or buy stuff too.

It'll be fun!

AS LONG AS IT'S NOT AT THE END OF MAY!

optimuslaugh2.gif
BaCon
How about June 4th?
Elita-One
Nothing on my calender yet.
Khan
I could do June 4th.  I may even have stuff to trade.
BaCon
June 4th is looking good anyone else?
Fortress_Maximus
Might be good for me too. What time are we hoping for? What about the location? biggrintf.gif
CANNABIS PRIME
any plans for an '06 "SAWP" meet???
Fortress_Maximus
The last one died, WJ what happened man?

Not enough interest it seemed. I am into doing it again. Some questions first:

How many of us would come to the event for sure?

When is a good date and time for everyone?

Who could help with organizing?

Where would we do it?

The real challenge I see is finding a place to hold it. One suggestion I have is the flea market at the Alameda space where 101 and 280 converge. Its held every Sunday. We could rent a table or just squat in the parking lot. Unforuntately its not near a Bart station. Someone suggested the park behind the Metreon as well.

Thoughts?
CANNABIS PRIME
i would wanna come out(date pending). flea market or parking lot sounds good. buena vista park would be hard for people that do drive(parking). where in alameda is this? the only places that i recall 101 & 280 meet is in SF by army/bayshore and in SJ??? swap meet sounds good tho. how much is the table fee there? i can check out the solano swap meet in concord for fees. lmk if concord would be an option.(plan b or sumthin)
BaCon
Doh sorry, that is ALEMANY in SF, not Alameda. See a map here:

http://maps.citysearch.com/location?locati...o+CA+94110-6221

IMHO, the closer to a Bart station the better for everyone. Not everyone has access to a car.

BTW, there is the year Super collectibles toy show at the San Jose Fair Grounds March 25th. See here:

http://www.timetunneltoys.com/toyshow.html

Its always been a good show in the past. Maybe we can all meet up there?
CANNABIS PRIME
yo that san jo show sounds cool. you thinkin we should get a vendor table? if there were a dedicated 7 of us we can all fade in $10 and save from that early bird admission. have a TFans.COM booth and all. just a thought.
Fortress_Maximus
Guys is this going to ever happen? Wheeljack CHIME IN! Thanks!
Overbite
the SJ toyshow is happening next week so it might be too late to get a table...
