I have been out of the console loop for awhile, but I just saw something on Mega Man 9... the first 8 bit Mega Man since #6! I played MM7 for SNES and MM8 for PSX and they were good... but just didn't feel right. Now, as I hinted above, I don't own nor have I played any of the current machines. However, I guess that MM9 is availale for WiiWare, PS Network and X Box live
My question is: Has anyone tried this game out? Is it any good? Because I'm thinking about doing something completely anal and getting a PS3 for this game. I can't help it, I owned ever MM game up to 8 and owned all the MMX games up to 6. NEED INPUT!

It does a great job of showcasing how far video games have come since mega man came out, but it still fairly fun.

Yes, you are out of the loop. I've been playing it for two weeks now, it's the best Mega Man ever.

I too am a huge MM fan with pretty much every other game in my collection. MM9 isn't my favorite (that honor goes to MM2), but I can easily say it's the best since 2-3. And it's very true to the game's original mechanics, meaning no slide, no charging your weapon, and no empty rooms or huge corridors devoid of enemies or traps. Just straightforward, hard-as-nails classic Megaman action!

Sir, you and I have consensus. MM2 and 3 have always been favorites of mine. Maybe you can answer this. Is it just me, or did MM lose some quality after 3? I mean, 4 was good but 5 and 6 just seemed low budget to me.

#2 was, and probably always will be the best. I still need to go download this one though, just for its 8-bit glory if nothing else. Megaman is still to this day one of the primary reasons I buy a console.

I like MM3 for the soundtrack. MM2 was just too... disco

However, MM2 had the best gameplay.
Damn... I can't afford a PS3 now. Yet.... must... play.... MM9!!

Well, I could but:
1) I've heard the Wii is lacking in the graphics dept and they're still scarce where I live
2) Not a Microsoft fan so the X-Box can eat me
3) If I can find the right PS3, I'll have backwards compatibility and can resurrect some PSX/PS2 gameage
Why would I wanna do #3?

You speak of the MMX (MegaMan X) series for SNES. This is about the original MM 8 Bit NES series.
Although up to about MMX5, the series rocked. MMX6 started getting weird. Never played MMX7 or 8.

The thing about 4-6 is that they changed a lot of the enemy placement and level design around to make the games easier. Like I said, you'd have whole rooms and corridors with literally nothing in them. What's the point of putting a room in a MM game with nothing that can kill you? They also made it so you basically didn't have to use your special weapons because each boss could easily be taken out with charged buster shots (especially in MM5), which eliminated the whole "rock-paper-scissors" stategy.

As far as difficulty is concerned, how do these shape up to the GBA Megaman Zero series, those games will kick your a$$(especially if you try to keep an "A" grade)..., but were so much fun at the same time.

MM1-3 = hard, but not as hard as Megaman Zero
MM4-8 = not as hard as MM1-3
Megaman & Bass, MM9 = as hard/harder than Megaman Zero
All IMO, of ccourse.

Yes. There are Megaman 1-9, and then there are MegamanX 1-8.
I still need to pick this one up though, or rather, download it..., but all with good time.

The only way you'd have a hole is if they released Megaman 10 on a physical medium, which I don't see happening.

Is being able to stick to walls really that important to you? Because its pretty much the only difference between the two series.

That and Dash move. Yes. It's very important. Not being able to dash jump and wall jump feels like a step backward. It would be like taking away Mario's Wall jump and his backward jumps on a 3D Mario game.
