I'm ordering a Halloween book for my daughter. Since Amazon will ship orders over $25 for free, I'm using this as an excuse to get a few books I've been wanting to read off my wish list. I'm trying to decide between 2 of the 3 following books:

Batman - Year One
Batman - The Dark Knight Returns
Watchmen

Which 2 should I pick?
Hobbes-timus Prime
Watchmen and TDKR.

Year One is really good, but it doesn't hold a candle to the other two.
G.A.S.H.
I wasn't too impressed with TDRK myself... Haven't read Year One though, so can't comment on how good that is. Also, Amazon haven't lowered the price? Gutted (it's £5 for us now...)

hmmm... only going with those 3 eh?

screw it!

instead of those get Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth

and Identity Crisis

NLTAG, you're not helping!

The only DC character I'm even remotely interested in is Batman, so Identity Crisis doesn't appeal to me. But now I want to read Arkham Asylum!!!!

Batman V Spawn..

No, just no.

If you are a fan of both characters and you are buying up a bunch of books - its a fun read.
BUT if you are looking for a decent story with good art - just stay away from books like this.

Although Batman/Grendel (the first one) is really really good. But I might be biased....

Hutner is SUPAH-GHEY 4 GRENDEL!!!

Anywho, out of those 3 I would pick up TDKR (but ignore the sequel) and Watchmen. But I HIGHLY recommend Arkham Asylum as it is 1,000,000 kinds of awesome.

I have a love/hate relationship with Watchmen because I think it's an incredibly amazing story told in the most boring way possible.

I'm just as bad about Grendel if not worse than Hunter. Try looking into Batman and the monster men or Batman and the mad monk. Both are written and drawn by Grendel creator Matt Wagner, excellent stories IMO. But I will say Watchmen is good, though it took me a month to read it due to it's pacing (Alan, ya know we lurves ya right?...) TDKR is always one I suggest for anyone reading comics. My last one to offer would be Ex Machina, a really weird fun take on what it might be like if a guy were a hero who decided to become mayor of New York City.

It's a shame because Identity Crisis is pure g1-OptimusPrimeAniLevelup.gif

But Arkham is one of the most beautiful books ever

Fuck it, just get TDKR and Watchmen!

I guess it falls to me to be the dissenting voice maverick. I would go with Year One and Watchmen.

What? I hate Frank Miller's art. Always have.

Isn't Year One a Frank Miller book, too?
