I just got an email from Amazon.com saying that they had canceled my Rubik's Cube AllSpark order:
quote:
Hello from Amazon.com.
We are sorry to report that we will not be able to obtain the
following item(s) from your order:
"Rubiks Cube All Spark"
http://www.amazon.co...duct/B000X2D6ME
Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found that it is not available from any of our sources at this time. We realize this is disappointing news to hear, and we apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you.
We must also apologize for the length of time it has taken us to reach this conclusion. Until recently, we had still hoped to obtain this item for you.
We have cancelled this item from your order.
endquote
With no other real info, and the fact that the release date kept getting pushed back over and over, and the fact that Hasbro does in fact manufacture the Rubik's cubes but does not have an AllSpark listed at Hasbro.com, I'm guessing that they just decided not to make it.

It's like Hasbro has some kind of policy against making toys of the various MacGruffins such as the Matrix and the Allspark, which is ironic considering how important a role these MacGruffins play in the fiction. Really, the Allspark is the only reason why the TF's came to Earth in the movie and yet, Hasbro still doesn't think it's important enough to make an official toy of it.

Dude, its a box. Want a toy of it? Find a box and some gray spray paint.
I shouldn't have to do Hasbro's work for them, not to mention that it's hypocritical of Hasbro to be all "The Allspark is the most important thing in the universe but we don't consider it to be important enough to make a toy of it".

All I'm saying is, if you want a toy of a box THAT bad...
Seriously, give me your address and I'll make you an Allspark toy. Or BETTER YET, maybe FunPub could make it an exclusive and fanboys everywhere could scream TEH SEEKERZ! all over again.
It's a box. You can't even roll it on the floor or anything. (i.e. it has no PLAY value. Toys with no play value are not a good idea since most toys are aimed at, you know, NOT overweight 30 year old losers that sit at a desk and stare at a computer monitor all day...like me.)
Even if they did make a toy of it we wouldn't be happy. "IT'S OUT OF SCALE!!!" or "IT DOESN'T DO MAGIC SHRINKY-DINK!"

The thing is, Hasbro has a record of building ancient artifacts up as being the keys to life, the Universe, and everything in the fiction, but then they never follow through by making actual toys of these things. Previous examples are Energon Cubes, the Matrix, the Golden Discs, and now the Allspark and maybe even the animated version of it as well. The one exception is the Omega Lock from TF:C but even then Hasbro still downplayed the role of the Golden Cyber Keys to the point where it seems like the Omega Lock would have still worked if they jammed any old cyber key in there.
Clearly, it seems that Hasbro doesn't really care for MacGruffins and they probably wish that TF's could be more like GI Joe, ie, just two armies running around and shooting the shot out of each other.
They could have followed Takara's example and just included an Allspark accessory with a regular toy but no, even that's too much for Hasbro.
