Review: DOTM Deluxe Class Ratchet Figure

Last year, Ratchet was released as a Deluxe class mold. The results weren't exactly positive. The rear panel could easily develop stress marks and the paint job was over the top bright. Combined with the flighty gun that had a hard time staying in place, it ended up being more of a pain than a want. Hasbro gives it another try by going back to roots, sort of, and gives us a whole new mold.

Probably my second favorite DotM figure I have next to Voyager Megs. Only problem is with the weird shoulder spread and backpack falling off. His mechtech is actually nice and appropriate for the character, which seems a rarity for a deluxe... Though the blades on the saw are actually backwards if you look closely.

 

You can actually take advantage of that backpack falling off by wrapping it around his arm as a "shield" or something.

IMO it's like they merged the best parts of the voyager mold in with the best parts of the deluxe mold. He's simply a beautiful figure in every way. Funny too because he was almost going to be a first day pass for me, but as with many others, I caved and grabbed him too. Just couldn't stop myself. More than glad I did too!

Wow, I've had no such problem with the backpack falling off. Perhaps you have a defective unit?

the shoulders on this figure are just so atrocious that i can't bring myself to pick this up.

 

i really wish they would've given us a new voyager ratchet.

From the pics the shoulders dont look that bad. I would have to say he looks great (other than the backpack) in the review. There doesnt seem to be much kibble at all, again, other than the backpack.

I would have preferred a Voyager as well, but that's no knock against this figure. I fully intended to pass on it and only bought it cause it was the only thing on the pegs when I took back Starscream. I thought I would be returning him too, before I opened him and witnessed the awesome.:awsum

 

BTW, the backpack falls off the hinge, is what I meant. I applied a little clear nail polish and it stays on better now, though it still comes off when TFing back to alt mode sometimes.

The Voyager Ratchet mold from the first 2 lines is being repaints again to look like his new look. It's supposedly a Target exclusive

I have to echo that this is one of the hidden gems of the line. My son insisted we buy him and I am glad we did. Just a well done fig.

 

Note that he has enough articulation to use his Mech Tech weapon two handed and look good doing it.
