Everyone is aware by now how most fans feel about the Constructicon's treatment in the ROTF movie. However, there may be redemption down the road via the Power Core Combiner lineup. We get a sneak peek of sorts with Sledge, a 2pk commander with a construction vehicle alt mode. Will it offer hope or more disappointment? Hopefully this review will aid in an answer.

I'm not sure exactly what sort of construction equipment he's supposed to be (looks like the bastard child of a backhoe and a bulldozer with some ditch witch thrown in for good measure) but the alt mode still manages to look cool. I bet he'll look even better with the Constructicon drones. I also this I may have found the first chest plate I like in the drill mode.

I'm probably the on;y one that thinks this, maybe not, but I am kind of disgusted with the repetition of the vehicles used for the legs and arms. It's like repaints in over abundance. Why can't the makers get off their a$$es and make combiners the right way already? Get rid of these cheap, crappy excuses and make combiners the way they should be with each vehicle in the set and actual Transformer that can go from vehicle, to robot, and back to vehicle for combining to form more solid better looking giant f-ing robots. I have only bothered getting one of these sets because he looked pretty neat. Bombshock. The vehicles that come in the set make sense, they are all some form of military vehicle. But then you have all these others and I don't care how many times people want to switch these guys they are all repeat repaints that barely stay connected to the main figure. And I'm sorry but these half a$$ed hands they make annoy the crap out of me. What happened to hands that can hold weapons? I wish these power core POS sets would just stop being made and real efforts be made towards making scout or even deluxe class combiners that stay together when in combined form with actual hands, weapons, and working knees and elbows for the first time. Actual nicer sets that get sold in stores. No offense to Fans Project cause I like what they do, but it would be nice to have great figures that are in a more affordable price range. I did read somewhere on line that there was a group working on and updated version of the G-1 original Constructicons that form Devastator but don't remember who and have not seen anything about it since. Anyways, I'm sorry but IMO, the power Core combiners are the worst designed Transformers ever. It also annoys me that there is an over abundantly stocked amount of these and really nice figures like HA Mudflap that so many of us looked for were so under stocked.

This is actually probably one of my favorites of the line. I'm sorry to say, but thus far, each five pack's leader has been an utter dissapointment for the most part(Though Bombshock, the only complaint I have is the robot mode. It's not the nicest, but I love the combiner mode's look, and the vehicle form is pretty cool.). The two packs have seem to always been the gems of the line int erms of how they look as robot, vehicle(Granted, Sledge's Vehicle mode is odd.. But as people pointed out, it's rather nifty as well, regardlesss.), and commander mode. It's why I'm actually looking forward to the Destrons(But not the Protectabots before I see them in a store. For now, the color scheme is just too gharish for me.) The other thing with the two packs is that they seem FAR FAR FAR FAR less prone to quality control issues than the five pack combiners(Outside of Bombshock there's been some serious issues on that end. The plane and Mudslinger have shodddy QC, and well.. Double Clutch you need to freaking modify to get to work. Good job there Hasbro, awesome work.). I'll admit as well, I like Sledge's Minicon. Mine holds over well and I thought it was neat really, and it isn't the worst. I hold that to the Helicopter one's minicon that seems to have a mostly arbitrary alternate mode.

That said... Moar drones please. Good ones. I like Mudslingers drones were the best set, followed by Bombshocks. Then likely the Rallybots, and followed behind the mess that is the Aerial bots.

I like this guy a lot, and agree that the 2-pack leaders are better than the 5's. I love Sledge's multi-machine alt mode, and the way the treads bedn outward at the knees automatically. Not too crazy about the dual-face thing. Great fig overall.

I like Sledge. Seeing a new Constructicon-like Transformer that actually has a good robot made buying Sledge an easy decision. After the RID Landfill set, the cheap Energon Consructicons and the horrible movie Constructicons, Sledge is more than welcomed.

I don't think you mentioned this in the review, but the undersides of the arms have 5mm peg holes, so you can plug Throttler's head into either of those holes so Sledge can wield his weapon form in his "hands" and go all Gurren Lagann on some Autobots.

I like Sledge and his minicon and I don't care for the whole minicon thing. I've seen this type of equipment when they are repairing long stretches of Highway in Illinois. May not look "exactly" like this, but it had a big saw on it with the back hoe. I think the minicon could have been a better color than Purple.

  • 2 weeks later...

A mean-looking Constructicon...not much more to say. I agree with others about the minicon...perhaps repainting the purple to silver matching Sledge's saw blade will do the trick? I've also gotta black out those nasty blue 'connectors'...yep, still bitchin' about those... :deadhorse

Sledge will be interesting to see with the 5-pack PCC Constucticons!
