I have to say that if I didn't have all the Rhino sets, I'd be all over this one. The changes sound great and I'm loving the fact they are planning on a complete series. But to be honest with the Rhino sets...for all their flaws...are good sets to just watch and enjoy the show.

Not sure if I want to put down the money for a set of dvd's I've already got unless the quality is exponentaly that much better.

I'm buying it even though I have the Chinese set. Having a G1 set without the extra sound effects will be nice, in addition to all the interviews they will be including as part of the extras.

I have the complete Rhino set, haven't watched it in a long time though. As far as extra sound effects, can you give me an example of where these were included? I don't remember hearing anything that sounded too different last time I watched them.

That being said though, I will still keep to my original DVD's. If I want to see toy commercials and PSA, I can always check out youtube.

The extra sound effects were all over the place in every episode, and very repetitive. Mostly explosions and laser-blast noises. Those that were fans of the originally aired episodes know what I'm talking about. This new release is also doing a better job of transferring them from what I've read. Basically those that want "original" G1 episodes will buy this set. Those that don't care will be fine with the previous incantations.
