Nostalgia is coloring your perceptions of G1 Prime.

Hardly. I know he was a one dimensional cardboard cut-out who was incapable of doing anything other then being the robot version of John Wayne who could magically defeat the entire Decepticon army by himself.

And no, I don't want :animated Prime to become him.

I'm simply saying that I expect :animated Prime to eventually become something more then what he is now.

On a lesser note I'm saying that there's no harm in preferring G1 Prime to :animated Prime if that's what floats your boat.

Runeimus Prime says he prefers just that, and that he doesn't appreciate :animated Optimus Prime. So what if that's how he feels? Why did his expression of that fact trigger a reaction from :animated's most vocal supporters like they had been personally insulted?

Personally my preferred Optimus Prime doesn't exist. He would have a mixture of :animated Prime's and BW Primal's characterizations, Classics Prime's body, and Garry Chalk's voice. Get on it CN.

EDIT-Crap, that's a lot of :animateds

It is possible to look at a show objectively and still enjoy it.

Uhm, it's not. Enjoyment is a value statement and therefore, by definition, subjective, and never objective.

I can't help but wonder whether 20 years from now the kids of today will have similar discussions on Spongebob :imagine Squarepants.

Well obviously not at the same time. What I was getting at was that I'm able to enjoy the show, then sit back and look at it objectively to discuss it.

I like Animated Optimus Prime as he is now, thx.

So no more development as a leader and a character? If that's what floats your boat then go ahead.

:tldr and a lot of :animated

I was talking to Runeimus. I could've made that clearer. Sorry.

No worries.

What exactly are you expecting to see? I've been re-watching Beast Wars again because the kids busted out the DVDs, and one thing that struck me is that the whole "Primal grew as a leader" thing is a total myth. Watch any actual serialized drama on television and you'll see what character development really looks like. Which is to say, I don't think that Animated Prime needs anything that he doesn't already have, as a character.

Personally I've always thought that, outside Cheetor at least, BW's "character development" was a total myth. I've said this before, but I feel :animated's done a much better job with the "crew of nobodies thrust into hero situation." Mostly because of character development.

So far I look at Animated and I see characters who have actually grown into their roles, Prime included. I just don't think the writers should say "well that's enough of that, time to stagnate everyone for two seasons."

They should continue their growth. For starting out as repair bots they've come a long way, but that doesn't mean that can't go further.

As for what I'm expecting to see, well I agree with you in that Prime so far has at least the basics down. I would like to see more of a commanding presence.

In hockey there's always a duality when it comes to the coaching staff. The head coach is always the hardass who knows what has to be done, and you have the assistant coach who plays the role of the guy you can talk to if you're concerned with this or that.

Right now it seems like Prime's more of the assistant coach variety. He needs to develop more of a "commander's edge" so to speak.

Don't get me wrong, :animated Optimus is a great character, and he's grown as a character more then any other Optimus character has in TransformerDom. I just think it would be a shame to cut that development sort when there's so much more that can be explored.

I think the whole "Primal grew as a leader" thing was accomplished in two ways that had nothing to do with his personality.

1) his crew actually started following orders and DOING WHAT I GOD DAMN TELL YOU TO DO RATTRAP

2) He mutated into a giant hulking quadrupal changer of doom.

The first one is already happening in :animated and I hope the second one never happens. Primal acted the same, but it's easier to look like a great military leader if your plans are actually followed IMO.
