Review - Transformers Dark of the Moon

Knowing some around here it would end up in a flame war and locked. Honestly once you put the G1 stuff to the side and enjoy the movies they are great. And it is the fact that many can not drop the G1 that causes the problems. However considering that if the movies were not good, then people would not have gone many times to see the movies in the theater let alone buy the DVD's and merchandise. Regardless of your feelings towards Michael Bay or towards any of the characters in it. I don't see an objective argument taking place. Someone will bring in G1 another will bring up hatred. It's not going to happen.

And that is the main hang up G1, even though Transformers has been all out change for the last 27 years. There are those who refuse to accept change and want everything to be G1.

As far as critics go? I never listened to them, I'm still amazed at how a critic can get paid $100,000 a year when people don't even care or even listen to them. But yeah you came off very Roger Ebertish

I would like to point out that I am not a member of the GEEWUN only club...because this isn't about that, and I never expected the movies to come close to following it. However, you are right, and given the fact that these movies have made so much money, I never should have chimed in with an opinion. Consider it dropped.

Stating your opinion is one thing, its when you make accusations and declaring worst all because there was something in it you did not like is what killed it.

Like when you said a director that actually gives a damn and then saying that Bay didn't and claiming that it was going downhill, then bring up the twins basically saying it was cause of them. That is a Transformers fan.

All I have been stating is that the popularity and the money states differently. Transformers has made over a Billion dollars worldwide. Sure it took all 3 movies to do it, but it happened. And Transformers Dark Of The Moon is the Top movie of 2011. And nothing coming out for the rest of the year looks like it even has a chance of catching up to it.

Another thing that Transformers Fans forget is we are just a small group of fans, when it comes to the Live Action and even the cartoons. Hasbro does not listen to us, no one listens to us. Simply because no matter what we still buy whatever they sell. So why should they listen? They will only start to listen, when Transformers starts to tank again and loses popularity. Which if Hasbro and Takara keep doing. Transformers will remain popular for years to come.

The movies were not made for the Transformers Fans, they were made for money and they majorly banked. Over a Billion dollars is sitting in the bank cause of the Live Action Movies.

So while it is good to state your opinion, best thing to do is not to make accusations as that will only hurt your argument.

Agreed.

I would postulate that anyone seriously attempting to use The Twins--or any other character in the Bayverse--as a stand alone argument proving the supposed ineptitude of the Bayverse movie franchise on a pro-G1 platform had better be prepared to take a loooooooooooonnnnnnng, haaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrd look at G1. There were some characters all throughout the TF universe, including G1, that were just as bad that would be just as reviled today...if only for this internet thing. I love G1 as much as the next guy, but please.

As far as I'm concerned, there is only one way to legitimately attack the Bayverse, and that attack should be concentrated on the filmmaking. The employment of anything else to the exclusion of the film itself to dissect or attack or critique or CRITICIZE the Bayverse IMHO based on what I've seen so far are incredibly, terribly weak. But see, I haven't seen a lot of that. People will just find one thing to ride, one thing to harp on and just ride it out for all its worth, and then declare that that ONE THING they want to harp on is the reason the movie is not just bad, but TERRIBLE. And that, honestly, is moderately irritating. It's irritating when Roger Ebert does it, and it's irritating when anybody else does it.

I resent being lumped into (or, below) the same category as Roger Ebert or any other pompous movie critic, but I do understand the sentiment. I sincerely believe that the twins were in bad taste, and I will stand by that. But I did say, "besides everything else", so no, they are not the standalone argument, and I apologize for making it seem that way. We have been brainwashed to accept whatever hollywood throws at us to the extent that we can no longer truly tell the difference between what's good and what isn't; nobody's fault, it's just the way it is. However, if you want a serious discussion on the filmmaking itself, I would first ask which specific aspects you are referring to: the camera angles, the pacing, the performances (and if a director really has control over that), the editing, the writing (again, who really has control over that), or some other technical aspect of the movies that I'm leaving out? There are many ways to approach the argument, and I invite a serious discussion. But if this is going to be nothing more than a flamewar, then forget it. And if all it takes for a movie to be good is to make money, then yes, Dark of the Moon is the greatest movie ever. For what it's worth, there were a number of things I enjoyed from all three movies...but is it wrong to expect just a little more? For example, to actually have the enjoyable moments (Bumblebee's acrobatics) outweigh the cringe-inducing ones (any time Ken Jeong's character is in frame)?

Pax, Spooner2005. I apologize if I came off as though I was prepared or preparing to flame anyone. That is not my intent, and if I gave off that impression, again: apologies. And as for the Roger Ebert thing, here's where I'm coming from: I fully expect that I came off that same way when I read ROTF the riot act. See, I've never had a problem assuming that role anytime I give an opinion on a movie that may or may ot be unpopular...simply because someone will disagree with you and then, by default, you're getting lumped in with people you REALLY don't like.

By filmmaking criticisms, I meant the way in which the movie was shot/edited and everything else you brought up (pacing, cinematography, etc., etc.). You'll find me bringing up the three-headed monster that is Jaws/The Exorcist/Once Upon A Time In The West quite a bit because IMHO these are three of the best movies of all time from a filmmaking standpoint irregardless of whether or not you liked the subject matter of a possessed Linda Blair, a shark eating swimmers or Charles Bronson playing the harmonica, and I compare much of what I see in a movie to these 3 fillms. It's unfair, I concede. But, that's where I am with regards to what I like to see on film. One of the huge things that made Jaws (and broke ROTF) was simply the editing, for example.

i for one love the movies because it created its own universe while throwing in G1 homages for fun. The fact that they have wheeljack ( yes i love the einstein design), the MOTHERFRACKING WRECKERS and made the Xantium a reality on the big screen is for one a true success in my book. And I am a proud fan of the twins. Granted there are things i can do without but overall they were great. but like all series i am ready to see what is the next step in Transformers storytelling. "till are are one" :justprime:

Of our elaborate plans, the end

Of everything that stands, the end

No safety or surprise, the end

I'll never look into your eyes...again

Once again, the negatives outweighed the positives. What was a more compelling plot that contained a great twist of betrayal this time around was sacrificed for worthless dialogue and one-liners, unnecessary characters (Malkovich, Rosie, the parents, etc.), exorbitant use of slo-mo's, as well as a general lack of focus, all culminating in a purposefully, yet pointlessly, lengthy film, proving nothing was really learned from ROTF in the EDITING department. I'm not even gonna elaborate on the unfortunate mess that was Q and Brains...

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain

And all the children are insane

As for the overall trilogy...it's a stretch to refer to it as such. The Carly aspect turned out not to be the solitary problem of linkage to the previous movies, but all of them suffer from this. Oh well, before we analyze this too much (HA!), let's do as Shockwave does and ride the snake...

The snake is long, seven miles

Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold

Speaking of old and cold, who knew Cybertron was a honeycomb planet from any of the previous movie incarnations? And "Why do the Decepticons always get the good sh*t?" yet, their LEADER is sat in the corner once you-know-who practically takes over? This is bad comedy...

Driver, where you taken' us

BRAVO! :yay This is the end.

On the bright side, I am looking forward to seeing what other bots we might have coming down the pipe in a deluxe/voyager treatment, like the rest of the Dreads (Hatchet & Crowbar), perhaps Scrapper (guess he survived ROTF for Optimus to take him out in DOTM)...hell, that large fore-limb walker that kept showing up in several shots was pretty cool too! Oh, the possibilities...that Hasbro probably won't even explore...
