Review: Generations Skullgrin Figure

Sometimes, Hasbro has a knack to hit a repaint right on the head. Other times, a repaint just seems like a quick way to throw something out at the expense of soiling the tribute. Skullgrin is a repaint (with a new head) of Darkmount. Does it hit on the head... or does it soil? The answer may lie in this review.

That head looks AWESOME. Ill buy Skullgrin before Straxus at this rate.

I agree! I've considered Darkmount before thinking his alt mode and robot body would go well with the movie toys. But his face didn't measure up. Skullgrin's face, on the other hand, looks very movie friendly.

Now I dont want him so much... just kidding.

I've passed this toy over repeatedly in stores over the last 4 days. I am just not buying this toy as Skullgrin. Where the mold is PERFECT for Straxus, it's just plain not working for Skullgrin. This character needed an original mold based off of his Pretender Shell, not simply giving him an underwhelming head mold and calling him 'Skullgrin.'

I got this figure because I like the grey and red...but I am sure it's because I haven't found tracks or Jazz yet...the fact that he cost the same as Scout figure doesn't hurt. I actually like the colors better than Darkmount, but I like Darkmount's headsculpt better. Skullgrin's headsculpt looks like a rejected General Grevious.

I am going to use this figure when I eventually get around to my MP Blitzwing project. I love how the turret converts in Robot mode. It solves my problem with how to "hide" the turret in plane mode.
