Review: Generations Red Alert Figure

I love this mold. I don't know how many more times Hasbro could get me to buy it but I'll be picking this one up.

I'm not sure why everyone is so down on Punch/Counterpunch. I rarely splurge on expensive figures outside of the G1 collection I'm rebuilding but I was incredibly happy with mine. He's awesome top to bottom! Easily one of the favorites of my collection.

I am ok with the fact that they are giving us transformers like this and to be honest if you look back to G1 back in the day they ones that were "twins" or "Triplets" were of the same mold anyway. They still have 2 molds to go too which I hope they do for hasbrotoyshop exclusive and that is a g2 sideswipe and The seeker sunstorm(just like how they did overkill and dragstrip). For those not looking foreward to repaints or redos I am sorry but 2011 wont be far behind because we have grapple and outback comming soon and for anyone that isnt familiar with shattered glass I wouldnt look past hasbro to do that version of jazz which is Ricochet. Swerve(windcharger) Pipes(powercore combiner huffer) they can take it in so many directions so if you are tired of repaints and redos and what not then get outta the transformers genre while you can but as long as they are giving good stuff like they been doing then some of us will be in it for the long haul!

I love Overkill and Dragstrip as well as Optimus and Megatron. They looked great and even the packaging was awesome. I'd love to see a Sunstorm done up like that!

So long as they stop doing the 'modded' updates like Tuner Mudflap or Undercover Sideways or other shot like that. The modded repaints just add a bunch of useless accents and crummy gimmicks.

Yeah, repainting a figure as another figure is one thing but repainting a figure as a slightly different version of the same figure is just lame.

That is a point about variants being part of the transformers custom since the first line of toys. However, in a time where they have a Marvel and Starwars Crossovers line I would think that they could dedicate a little more of their resources to distinguishing their figures. And you must admit that much. I have a few of the cross overs (not bc I'm a starwars/marvel fan but bc I'm a transfan) and they are nice and unique enough to bring into the Trans universe. If you are going to do a repaint bring these that don't exist in the TF line into the mix!! Granted that the Alt modes and styles are different but I still think that the Hulk tank would make a great character in the TF line. And I really think that they would sell more too!! What do you think?

That's actually a really good idea. I'm surprised the big brains over at Hasbro didn't think of that yet. Maybe there's licensing issues? I wonder who they'd make my Clone Commander Cody figure into?

^No. Because the quality in aweful and for the most part the Crossover figures are terrible.

My theory is, why try to justify Marvel characters that transform into vehicles? That completely takes the literal Transformer out of the equation. Instead, why not have vehicles FOR the Marvel characters (like 3.75" scaled Universe figs) and have them transform into actual TF characters.

Example: Captain America comes with the Freedom Mobile which transforms into Optimus Prime.

Dr. Doom comes with the Doom Tank which transforms into Megatron.

etc

I can see the kick ass comic crossover now.

Something like this is even easier with GI JOE since it already has iconic vehicles.

As far as Star Wars goes, just meh. Im not too into it so I cant really comment although all the figures Ive had first hand experience with were shoddy as hell too.

They're justification actually is something along the lines of Tony Stark creating giant transforming battle mechs for various Marvel heroes.

I've wanted a Human Alliance-style line with G.I.Joe toys for years. A similiar Marvel line wouldn't be that big a stretch.

The IDW/Marvel Transformers/Anengers limited series was kick ass. Hopefully they'll do it again in the future.

For me, Star Wars like the Marvel line has been hit or miss with an awful lot of misses but there are a couple nice enough they'd fit really well with the mainstream Transformer line. Commander Cody is one. Spider-man (the motorcycle) is another. Do yourself a favor and check them out.
