Transformers Uber Collection on Pawn Stars

I happen to catch the show last night, it was fun. Not trying to take sides here but I think they need to be part it out because not everyone would want multiple same figures and not everyone would be willing to pay full market price when you are buying in bulk.

The only reason the guy went to a pawn shop is because he wanted to sell them quickly. There is no doubt he would get all his investment back if he is willing to invest the time and energy to sell them himself. Let just hope he take care of the collection quickly, because if he doesn't sell them by the time his baby arrive a lot of the figures won't stay in that condition for very long. (By the way, I love kids. I have two of my own, but it is just the way it is).

You're right. He can easily make a lot of money if he put them up individually on eBay. Although undercutting him on the appraised $20k to $5, that's crazy.

I think his target price was $10,000 from the start. If you watch the show regularly you would notice the guy from Pawn shop never pay anything more than 50% of the appraised.

Now WHY isn't he a part of these kind of forum? I'd like to think he just brought the Pawn Stars guys there just to get a proper appraisal but he did know what he was looking for. I think as the seller he should have high balled it first only because the pawn borkers were set to rip him off already! I mean c'mon...$5,000 seems more like a kick to the groin more than anything else.

Wish the show would have at least posted a number or e-mail address for the dude!

Transformers Mecca indeed it was! :thumb

I was watching this with my brother and I told him right off when I saw the collection there was no way they would buy this. First off collectors on this scale know what their collection is worth and aren't likely to budge so that's one barrier. The second is barrier is that the guys at the shop HATE buying things they have to work to sell, they much prefer to just stick something on the shop shelf and wait for someone to walk in. A collection like this would have to be split up in a meaningful way to sell well and they don't have that knowledge which would mean bringing in another person(s) to do so. For us it would probably be an easy thing to sell, but for them not so much.

If I was the guy that came in to estimate the value I'd wait for the show to pack up and leave and then come back and start cherry picking the best pieces from the collection. That guy knew his stuff and could easily turn a profit without outside help while offering a good deal to the seller.

I was glad to see him not accept $10K for it. I think if they offered $15k though he would have probably taken it. Let's just hope that he has at least 3- 6 months before his child arrives. $5k in labor? What the heck is that all about.

The hardest part of the whole thing would be cataloging it.

Very impressive collection. No doubt since he didn't sell it to the pawn shop he and the appraiser exchanged numbers. Very unlikely they didn't, unless they couldn't because of contractual agreements on being on the show. :shrug

Wouldn't selling them off in a short amount of time saturate the market and decrease the value? Supply vs. Demand? :tfevil

Has there ever been someone who tried to Sell their Neo-Geo Home Cart collection to them?

There are a few really rare ENGLISH home carts that are worth $20k - $40k in MINT condition. Crazy. :wat

They are a pawn shop so I don't really get mad at the store for offering such a low amount, I get mad at the person selling it because they should know how to say "No". Like the lady with the Alice in Wonderland book looking for $10k and was offered $5k. If they don't ask or make an offer the answer's ALWAYS no right? :tflaugh

I do get irritate when they use the line "..well in this economy..." :lame
