Review - Transformers: Exodus - War For Cybertron Novel

Hence why it is going to take a few years and multiple media to tell this story, and why, apparently, the project is currently being called "Once Upon a Time on Cybertron" . The original comic title was simply The Thirteen. I think the new title works better.

That's the title? It sounds like a bed time story... something tells me that this would not be a GOOD bedtime story.

Just my opinion though.

I don't know if it's the final title of the story or simply Hasbro's code name for the project.

I don't see why you would want to have a single after the fact retconed origin for all your universes. It's nothing but limitation. If they want to do a big "Thirteen" story, fine. Noting wrong with that, but trying to make it the one and only all time Thirteen story belittles the existing fiction, and limits future fiction.

Why can't every universe have it's own origins? The old cartoon barley mentioned Primus, expressly referred to the Quintesons as the Transformers creators, and had Unicron be built by Primicron, a weird monkey.

Ok, so that's not the best origin, but that's fine, because it doesn't have to work everywhere.

...

IDK, forget it. The whole thing is stupid beyond words. I hated the movies, I still haven't been able to watch much of RiD-Cybertron, but I've never succumbed to the "You're ruining my childhood!" bug. I may complain, but I've always maintained interest and waited things out. I just find something about this idea truly disheartening. For the first time since actively rejoining the fandom, I just feel like I have better things to do.*

*(Yeah, I know we all have always had better things to do. Hobbies don't get much more useless than this. The difference is that this is making me feel the truth of that, not merely know it on an intellectual level.)

One of the things that unifies any franchise is it's origin story. How did the character or world that the characters interact in come to be? Every franchise has its signature origin story. Transformers has been developing that origin over the course of the various series within the franchise for the past 26 years. Hasbro has consistently been working to build upon the Primus/Unicron origin story since it's inception in Marvel, and establish it as the franchise origin. The Thirteen is a major part of this origin, and has been since Marvel. It's only now though, that the whole story has finally begun to be told. It is something that the foundations have been laid down for since the beginning though.
