Review: Human Alliance Barricade Figure

I only wish the tip of the shoulders could rotate and bend to the outside like on the deluxe version. I like that feature with that figure, it allows you to get the kibble out of the way better. As this one is, they can only stand straight up or pinch in a bit.

i'm SO glad that they don't bend outwards.. that looks absolutely ridiculous on the deluxe figure, not to mention incredibly inaccurate.

The point is with the deluxe version you had the choice. Nothing wrong with positioning something a slightly different way if someone feels that they like the figure better that way. There are no rules saying you MUST keep all TFs posed in the standard transformations even if one feels a figure looks better doing something a little differently. That's part of the fun.

When I had the deluxe (sold it) I kept those pieces folded out too. It spread the figure out nice and made him look like he had more then the sides of a car hanging off him.

i guess we just have different tastes. i just think it looks goofy when they're just sticking straight out of the side. it really ruins the whole aesthetic of the figure. having the shoulders sticking up, with the windows sticking up behind him gave him a more menacing look. and having those pieces sticking out at a ridged ninety degree angle, to me, doesn't look like they're hanging at all.. and i don't get why we should have been given that option. the character didn't look like that, the figure wasn't supposed to be positioned like that, it just doesn't make sense for hasbro to have given us that option. but hey, you can't really argue with someone else's opinion, cause after all it's an opinion. i'm just glad that the options not there, so along with no one angling the lower chest pieces i don't have to see tons of pictures with his shoulder pieces angled outwards. lol.. i have no idea why that stuff bugs me, it shouldn't, but it does.

and as for the size of frenzy. i think he's a perfect size, it's the humans that look to small. i mean, they're decent for the vehicle modes, but for the robot modes they are WAY too small. with frenzy, he can fit into barricades chest, then in robot mode he can come out, and be in pretty decent scale to barricade. i think the humans should be at least 3.75" sized when compared to the human alliance robot modes.

Well don't forget that these are designed to be played with. It's easy to see how positioning those pieces facing out keeps them out of the way so a kid (or whoever) can more easily move the arms around.

Plus you never know what slight changes were made to the screen characters from the designs that they were working with Hasbro on. Barricade might have originally been designed that way and the on-screen version was simply changed later on. By then it would have been too late to alter the figures. We'll never know.

i highly doubt that early designs of barricade had those pieces at a 90 degree angle to the side.

those vertical pieces are recognizably barricade.. hence why everyone initially thought sideways was barricade.

like i said before those pieces positioned at a ninety degree angle just look incredibly goofy (to me). it makes no sense for hasbro to spend the extra money to add an option to make the figure look inaccurate. i mean.. transformers, to me, was about transforming something that i saw on a show, comic, or movie, and make it look as accurate to the source material as possible in its bot mode. i mean.. with classics starscream, you don't keep the fat part of his wings at the bottom in robot mode.. or with classics prowl, you don't have the whole door assembly piece positioned vertically.. you have it folded up with the doors extending horizontally.. same thing applies to barricade.. but still accurate or inaccurate, it still looks goofy, it just looks even more goofy with it being inaccurate. and like i said before transformers are something to play around with, but you play around with it to get it to look like what it's supposed to look like.

anyways. i tried to fix the hip problem. the way that his leg is constructed doesn't make the figure perfect, but it makes it a lot easier to pose.

I do like how the bumper positions to be more screen acurate. And i see and somewhat agree with what Tim is saying, about positioning things to look like our known bots. But i also agree with having opinions. hmmmm

Even though I still think the robot mode is f'ed up, I really like HA Barricade. That's how good the Human Alliance line is, making me like characters that I didn't like before. The same goes for HA Skids, and hopefully soon, Mudflap.

I really wish that Hasbro would continue this toy line beyond the movie characters.
