New Transformer Game in works

The December issue of GameInformer has reported that:

Loose Talk, page 29

"Transformers Transformation

Activision's movie-based games are known for strictly adhering to the template of the films, often to those titles' detriment. However, Loose Talk is hearing rumors that the publisher/developer is hard at work on another Transformers game, and we're told that this one isn't tied to the Michael Bay films. Could this have been the Transformers game that fans have deserved all along? Movie-based games games typically don't get the development time they need due to the need to meet the film's release date, and film tie-ins can hamper the storylines the game can explore on as well. This Transformers game sounds like it will get the freedom it needs."

A new non-movie based Transformers game sounds awesome to me. And i loved the ROTF game. I'm guessing this new game would be based on G1, since G1 is the most prominent Transformers universe from which all TF universes are born from. A Universe game might be cool too, featuring characters from all over TFdome.

Wow Great News. I really want one where its like those old Gundam fighter where you fought other gundams from the previous series. They could do it where you can use the bots and cons from all the series. And to make extra cash make certain characters buy able online. I can see it now Megatron G1 vs Movie Megatron or Optimus Primal vs Overlord. Or a side game where a characther fights all his versions to see which one is the best.

Hey as long as the new game has online multiplayer then I'd buy it for sure, that and if it is based on G1 then I'd love to play as Grimlock! :tfevil

Plus I'd like to see a transformer game based away from the Bay universe and more towards something the veteran fans would really enjoy, maybe even include some BW characters as well

It is true that there is a Transformers project in the works. The code name of it is Transformers Ultimate. Well, I kinda saw the name of folder while I was working for Activision Blizzard. That is all I can confirm.

In the ROTF game, you can already fight Movie Megs and G1 Megs together ;) And the dlc is something you can buy for more characters, multiplayer maps and new campaign content as well as a new leaderboard. Even if the storyline was strictly G1 or some other universe, I would hope they would put in other characters from other universes, much in the way they put G1 characters in the ROTF game.

So are we to assume no more DLC for ROTF?

I haven't heard anything about anymore. But this new game hasn't even been announced yet. We should expect this game sometime late next year so as to allow the next movie game in 2011 some elbow room. During the wait though, I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one more dlc pack for ROTF. Heres to hoping.

Multiplayer was ROTF's biggest success, and the dlc for it was mainly in support of said multiplayer. It would be a shame if they failed to capitalize on an mp mode. BW characters would be fun but they pose problems with scaling, they'd have to be close to the same size as other characters so in essence, you'd be playing as a 20 foot tall cheetah lol. But I wouldn't mind though, just make them fun extra characters to play as that don't have any bearing on the plot.

You should go all Sam Fisher and sneak back in to retrieve the folder ;). But then again thats Ubisoft, so Activision probably has anti-Fisher defenses in place. Still though it's cool to have some further steam roll in on the subject. And don't worry, I can keep a secret :P

Im guessing its for the new show being annouced i believe in February, id be willing to bet on that more then a G1 game. It would make more sense, since nowadays everytime a new show comes out ESPECIALLY somthing like Transformers, a video game follows. And with the recent rumor of G1's writer working on something "probably" Transformers, heavily suggested anyway, then why wouldnt they have a game to suit?

Good thing is its probably something like G1, more then Energon from what i can see.

But then again, i dont play video games, so its not a big deal either way for me. I wouldnt mind watching someone play ROTF though at one point. But its not big on my must do things.

I doubt it would be for the new series. If this game is already in development then Activision would already need a plot as well as a slew of characters from the new show to fill the game's roster. And Im willing to bet at this point that all those characters whoever they may be are not even close to finalized. If they were and Hasbro did hand them over to Activision then we'd see some leaked images for sure.

But all that depends on whether or not this game is under full swing. If it's still in it's baby steps then Activision could stall and wait for more info on the new series, which isn't impossible. But my money is still on G1. The dlc for ROTF was already a way to gauge the public's response to whether or not they'd be interested in playing G1 characters. I'm not saying that there won't be a game for the new show, there surely will, but the success of that game rests entirely on whether or not the show does well (a show that Activision probably doesn't even know about yet). If it's a show like Animated I doubt it would garner much attention from casual gamers. Whereas G1 is already well known across three or four generations as it is.

I hope this rumor is true.

The recent ROTF game although flawed had it's high moments particularly the character designs, animation, controls and of course the multiplayer modes.

Taking those strengths and applying them to a new TF IP would be quite mouthwatering.

Thinking off the cuff the most appealing IP to base it on would be the TF Universe line which has iterations of some of the more popular characters across several generations.
