Transformers #1 Sells Out!

So, the first issue is completely sold out.

Well, that doesn't mean a bloody thing without some numbers to back this up.

When AHM #1 was released, IDW also claimed that it sold very well, but according to the TFwiki the actual sale numbers showed that it sold less than the Furman stories.

Without having to think about it, I can immediately come up with completely different scenarios.

1). This comic book sold very well. IDW printed the same (large) amount of this issue that they always do and the demand was so huge that this wasn't enough.

2) After the ever declining numbers of issue sold during AHM, IDW decided to bet on the safe side and printed far fewer issues than with the previous series. And all those sold out. Doesn’t mean that is sold well, just better than expected.

3) because of low sales during the AHM series, many comic book retailers decided to order far fewer numbers than before, but with that abysmal series concluded readers are willing to give it try again, meaning that stores don't have enough.

I have to agree with you 100% that statement could have been leaked out to further sales. Say they are sold out to get folks to rush out and get a copy. That and most stores don't seem to carry Tf comics anyway. My store guy says they only order 10 copies and 6 of those are for subs. He states that most times atleast 2 of the 4 go to the back issues boxes.

Just wish they hadn't ruined the issue for those who couldn't get it first time with that bloody spoilerific press release yesterday :(

Yeah, IDW seems to be fond of taking away reasons to buy their comics :P

I've nowadays taken up the habit not to click on IDW's preview pages or skip them in their comics, because they usually already give so much away that only a few pages are still left unseen when you buy the comic.

Really all that's left with this first issue is a few pages that are just filler between the main events.

Oh, by the way, my local comic book guy also had a good reason why the comic was sold out. It's a first issue. Apparently, the first issue of a series always sells very well. (Hence why even one-shot are issue 1.)

Well, I was at a comic book store today and they still had about five issues of Transformers #1. I also saw some at another comic book store this past Wednesday. Now that store usually has no Transformers comics, they usually sold out because they never ordered very many of them. If that store still has them next week, then I'll consider this comic to be not great as IDW is making it out to be.

Im a transformer completionist. Well COMIC complettionist that is ;), so for me, this comic is valuable and I need to get it at some point. I agree though, that it may be from stores ordering less then they should have. I HIGHLY doubt its a ploy to have the fans go out and buy comics that are NOT sold out. They wouldnt tell us this if it didnt have truth it (imo). However, i think its just the ecomony that they would order less, NOT cuz AHM did poorly. I like AHM, and so did the comic buyers it my area it seemed. Since they were out more often then less.
