And you thought buying Transformers was already taking a toll on your wallet! According to Reuters, Hasbro will raise the prices of its toys "in the mid-single-digit range" starting September 1, 2008. This price increase is being performed by Hasbro "to maintain its margins to fend off rising commodity costs."

Haven't they already? Walmart raised the deluxe and FAB Movie figure prices by $1 (I'm guessing Animated and Universe will next) and Marvel Crossover is a dollar more than Star Wars Transformers.

Though, that said, I doubt any increase on TFs will be more than a dollar (no licensing fees to pad out). And really, we've gone 5+ years without a price increase, I think we're due as much as we hate the idea of it.

Yeah but you gotta wonder if this is only the beginning. This may simply be the kiss before they bend people over and let rover take over.

Look at it this way. If Hasbro is making this increase while profits are still coming in above expectations, then imagine what may come if the profits eventually do fall off.

It may not seem like much, but it adds up. I think some of us will tend to underestimate what small increments can add up to over time. We tend to simply think "oh 50 cents is no big deal!"

Think about it this way, these days people are lucky if they get a 50 cent raise at the end of the year. With all of the other costs going up and wages not so much, it makes it a bit more than you might first realize.

Most of us here are going to start to figure out that we don't seem to be getting as much, yet we're still broke. Don't scratch your heads wondering why. It's no one thing, it's everything.

The timing of it all is just what strikes me as being most odd. Just as the quarterly reports come out and once again Transformers is praised for a strong performance. It's kind of like they're looking the gift horse in the mouth. Let's hope their face doesn't get bit off!

I personally am in favor of the price increase. I've been noticing worse and worse QC recently. I don't think the increase in price will make it BETTER, but I think it'll keep it from getting worse. As is I can fix almost any QC problem with my trusty X-Acto knife, my bottle of super glue, my crappy jeweler's drill/screw driver and a couple of wayward screws.

Everyone is so worried about this. I for one am not. We'll survive. As for how it'll effect the economy, well, the economy rises and falls. We've had good and bad times. At the moment we're in a bit of a slump, but it'll turn itself around. I'm betting in about 3-5 years things will start looking a little better. In the meantime, I don't mind this price increase. It doesn't seem like it's going to be by too much. So again, we'll survive. If it means the price for a leader goes from 39.99 to 40.49 or something, fine.

It's already happened in the uk with Universe, with the deluxes they'veraised the price from £9.99 to £12.99, the animated prices are still lower but what it effectively means is that the UK fans are already paying $25 for a single deluxe.

They've already gone up a buck in retail, so are they going up again?

I'm not realy complaing. I remember buying KickBack of $8 back in the day. Then when I started buying Beast Wars, the price of a Deluxe was $9.99. Up untill about a month ago, I was still buying Deluxes for the same amount.

As far as price increases go, I actualy think we've been lucky.

On the other hand though, things like the increase of the new Robot Heros, keeps making me out them back. Same thing with the Activators which is realy just a fancy name for a Basic or Scout.

I know it won't, but hopefuly more money will prompt more figures and not just repaints, cause yeah, those are expensive to make. I also hope they go back to using a sturdier plastic. I mean the new Classics are awesome, but hold Bumblebee in one hand and Prowl in the other, you can feel a weight difference. Hell, my Air Conditioner won't cool my apartment, but it'll knock SunStreaker over from across the room.

Oh, and if the Deluxe price does go up to $15, I forsee next quarter Hasbro's profit report taking a drastic fall. Take the Crossover line, I like them, I want them, but still in hand $15...

I can afford it, but the back of my brain just won't justify it.

We've been dreaming of this one, and it appears a transforming K.I.T.T. will be coming as soon as August! It must be something big and or special with a $49. - Read the Full News Story

    • EDIT 2: Okay, I think my real problem with this was the marketing image. The main image shows four robot turtles standing together, so I was ready for four toys, not one. Admittedly, I was so disappointed that I did not bother to read the article fully. That's my fault. I apologize. That said, now that I understand it is THE van that turns into a robot, not "robot versions of the four turtles," that makes more sense, but I don't get the four heads. There are images here of a bandana free head which I gather is not included. I would actually prefer a non-specific generic turtle head for the robot. I think that would remove a lot of confusion. At least for me. EDIT 1: My bad, I misunderstood. It's one toy with swappable heads. So, you made a thing based on a four member team, and you only want to sell one toy? You're not even trying to get people to "Collect all FOUR!" You do understand how toy sales work, right? Original Comment: This is a perfectly fine idea executed TERRIBLY. You made four unique toys, each specific to each of the Ninja Turtles, that all turn into the same vehicle? It would be one thing if they joined together to form the van. There have been transformer sets like that before. This is just wasted opportunity. Not to mention, that van exists for the turtles to ride in together as a team, so if they can turn into vehicles ... what do they need a van for? I get that that's their van, and that's cute and all, but ... this is just dumb and disappointing. Why not think about what kind of car each of them would drive based on their personalities, or ask some car company if they want to do a tie-in promotional? What do I want with four copies of the same van and no one to ride in any of them? It makes no sense.
