Takara Tomy Alternity A-03 Goldbug Out in Japan - In-Hand Comparison Images with Alternity Bumblebee

Many thanks to Snakas who has shared some in-hand looks at the Takara Tomy Alternity A-03 Goldbug action figure that has been released in Japan. The images offer angles on the robot and alternate Mini Cooper vehicle mode as well as in comparison with the orginal Alternity A-03 Bumblebee mold the firgure is based on. As to be expected, this is just like the G1 versions with Golbug is a repaint as a metallic gold color version of the Bumblebee figure. Check out the images after the jump. Is that a hint for them to use the Kre-O Optimus Head? :schin

 

I would have picked this guy up if they had at least done a new headsculpt. Not knowing enough about Goldbug and the continuity....did the original figure this was based on have the same exact headsculpt as BB did? If it did, then I can understand why they only repainted this head and I would be more....ehem.....forgiving of it.

Alternity had so much promise with Convoy, Starscream, Skywarp, and especially Thundercracker. But Dai Atlas and the Bumblebee mold has killed it for me. Talk about no effort to even try to get it right

G1 Goldbug had the same face design as the G1 Bumblebee toy, BUT by that time Bumblebee was established as looking as we know him, with the anime head. Goldbug in the Marvel comics did have the same head as his toy. So Alternity Goldbug is still just a lazy repaint. Takomy should have given him the G1 toy headsculpt.

Head aside, they couldn't even be bothered to make him properly gold, just metallic yellow! Might as well call him Bumper or Hubcap.

I agree that the color is kinda blah... looks more dirty than "gold" and also reminds me of Decepticharge's colors. Although, the G1 Goldbug wasn't really gold either, so maybe its a little closer to that.

Mini cooper mold??? in my eyes it's a Suzuki Swift sport but i could be wrong....lolz
