The fans have spoken (voted) and the BotCon 2011 Fan's Choice for the Hall of Fame is Waspinator! For the second year in a row, the fans have chosen a Beast era character for the BotCon Hall of Fame. Waspinator beat out Erector (which received a very humorous video tribute), Jazz, Soundwave, and Grimlock. What do you think of this fan choice and the so-far domination by Beast Wars characters? Let us know in the comments! Read the Full News Story Here

It is probably because a majority of Transformer collectors who vote are 20-something year olds who grew up with Beast Wars and have fond memories of the show. If the majority were 30-something year old who started with the original Transformers, I guarantee you it wouldn't be a Beast Wars character who gets inducted into the hall of fame. Honestly, I cannot see how generation 1 Transformer characters can be passed over for Best Wars characters. But whatever! :redface

Ice Wolf, I sympathize. I am actually one of those 20-something year-olds that grew up with Beast Wars. Yet, it seems to me that my demographic is split. Those like myself found out about G1 and remembered the isolated re-runs we would catch on some network when we were 5 or 6 and truly became attached more to the source material. I voted for Shockwave because he was one of the most iconic characters from G1. I admit though, some moments I found were very iconic in BW. The others may only consider what was most iconic in their childhood or what brought them to their path to Transformers.

Also, one should consider this: I think that if you put Rhinox, Rat Trap, or some other character in there, one of the G1s would have won hands down. The past two years though have just been really good nominations. Dinobot's last stand truly made him a legend. Waspinator was the best comedy relief character in the Transformers continuity and he got some of the best lines. Those are some of the steps to getting "Fame". Further, technically, they are part of the G1 continuity, just the descendants of the Autobots and Decepticons. Everything that happened in G1 is recognized and a part of their universe. With this facored in I can see how some fans would justify voting for BW characters. There may have even been a defection from some 30 somethings to the BW camp due to the second point I mentioned.

Waspinator can't be any better than his original Beast Wars toy. Let's face it, he's got one of the simplest transitions from robot mode to alt-mode, in both the show and toy.
